iPod on Linux... with GPLed software

Anonymous Coward writes "gnuPod 0.2 has just been released. It's the first GPLed program that allows you to use your iPod under Linux. It has support for playlists and stores information in a XML file, so it's very easy to edit the data or write a frontend. Still a bit 'beta' but its ready for every-day-use and it works well together with iTunes. A mac-ipod2win-ipod howto is also included."

Why would a linux user be interested in any way in an iPod? proprietary hardware, firewire only. That alone probably makes it one of the most incompatible mp3 players you can buy, without addressing the fact it's also way overpriced.

There are dozens of players that do far more, for far less.

what? ahahah you poor dumb bastard. Apple has never been 'nice' about people doing anything with their stuff. That's why they routinely sue and attack apple rumor sites that leak things, or anyone who makes an interface that looks remotely like their candyland interfaces all the flower people here seem to like so much.

I, a timetraveller, have travelled to the year 2100. With shocking news.

Linux has taken over the world, Microsoft dosent exist, everyone uses linux.

But, there is news of a secret oganisation, led by Richard Stallmans Great Granchild, and Bill Gates Son Linus Gates, Of a new Operating system called the hurd.

Although Started 110 years ago by richard stallman, it has been abandoned for nearly 80 years since hurd was forgotten.

They have released version 0.3, and around 1000 people are using it. The DRM4BB Group like this new system because of new RC9-65536bit encrypted DRM system. They are forcing it on people. It is predicted that HURD 0.3 Will take over the world. Unfortunatley, It looks like it will never reach 1.0 until the year 2984, the year of the end of the world.

Now that the software is free, all we need now are cheaper iPods, production-wise. $500 for 5GB? You've got to be kidding me!

Apple could save a fortune on labor expenses if they followed Walmart's Production Strategy, and probably have competitive prices.

I'd pay $100 for an iPod, but not $500 -- all they have to do to get me to buy one is cut labor expenses.
