Where? Britian? Then I must be imagining my 512Kbps downstream Cable Modem service that I've had for a year now. I must have been on an acid trip when several friends of mine upgraded to 1Mbps services, and I it was clearly monoxide posioning that made me believe that other friends of mine had ADSL installed over a year ago.

Get with the times and move some place other than Assend, Norfolk and you might actually find yourself someplace civalised where we do have broadband. I can't believe that whingers like you seriously expect telecoms companies to beat a path to your little inbred village just so they can loose hundreds of thousands of pounds installing service that only one person will use. They're out to make you happy, they're out to make money. Start your own telecoms company if you don't like it.
