IBM to Release 64-Bit, 1.8GHz Processor in 2003
Professor_Quail writes "A Forbes article supposed to be released tomorrow gives some details about the new PowerPC processor that IBM and Apple have been working together on; the chip is slated to be introduced at the end of next year. The introduction of this chip should put to rest any speculation that Apple is moving to an Intel platform."
bl1n9 bl1n9 1 0wnz0r j00!!!1!111!!
So it starts off a full GHz behind Intel? That's just great!
dumbasses can now shut the fuck up! x86 is garbage and will be eclipsed by this. so fuck you. I told you so hahahahahah fuck you FUUUUUUCK YOU!!!!!
just kidding:)
Whooaa. 1.8 GHz, and just 12 more months to wait for it. It nice to know that by the time that everyone else is running 3 or 4 GHz 64 bit AMDs and Itaniums, Apple will still be there for you with cutting edge technology.
BSD operating systems are weak featureless toy systems that only run on little kids hardware.
Let me know when you master the art of running on a big fat whopping 4-way box *snicker*
actually most of those POS oses can't even run on a 2-way. heh.
I guess you VM is ok, but i mean come on that fast writes crap is just a joke compared to a grown ups journaling fs.
But now is the time for war, murder.
Enjoy the cheap gas.
At the end of next year? Apple thinks I'm going to wait an entire year for a processor that's considered slow by today's PC standards? I'm sick and tired of being at the low end of the technology curve. Apple may not be switching to an intel processor, but I very well may be. I love my Mac, but I'm not about to pay $3,000 for a stick in the mud.

I'm pretty positive the current dual processor Ghz machines out right now are 64 bit already. So start thinking about that request now.
If you really did take price/performance, you'd be running PowerPCs NOW.
ITs this fantasy that clockrate is performance (and the "benchmarks" that only measure clockrate) that allow you to say something so idiotic and not be laughed off the planet-- so many other people want to believe in the superiority of a processor hobbled by backwards compatibility going all the way to the 4004 that you are in good company.
Yeah, and you guys panned the ipod too: http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=01/10/23
i like macs. sometimes i like to go on the internet and find all sorts of cool information. i really like how macs do this. sometimes i use my mom's computer, but its a pc and its different. i cant turn it off. help me!! seriously, please email me. im on my moms computer and if she finds me on it she might yell at me. how do i turn it off? what about this button
we in the gay community know that owning an imac is the best way to display your homosexual pride.
In fact many closeted gays choose imacs to express their real innerself.
So remember you gays if you see some guy with flowing long hiar and cute little imac, you can bet he dresses up in panties and prances about combing his luscious locks.
It's a great way to pick up new homosexual men, if you see they use macs and are just love macs its like a flashing neon sign saying "I'm really gay but i'm scared to admit it, hit on me and i bet you can get me to sleep with you".
That's how mysterious "gaydar" works i hate to spoil it for all the gays that liek to impress their straight friends by picking out the gays. You just look at the thing the person owns or what they get excited about or whatever. People that are really into macs...usually gay. Some in the closet and won't admit it, some are out and proud. But macs, oooh lala that's like a huge sign saying "ya baby i swing that way come n' get me!"
Actually, Apple will be switching over to Intel chips next year. I work at Apple, so I know. We have already given up on Power PC. BTW, We already have OS X running on x86 and it runs great. The new Macs will have problems running some of the old Power PC programs, but there is no way around that. We already switched CPU instruction sets once; we can do it again... We will continue to market these machines as being "easier to use and more intuitive than a Windows PC."
Cool.. Care to mention where one would turn to pick up an iBook for $600?
