crwulff writes "The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle today is carrying a story about Kodak's newest OLED display venture. Unfortunately only a prototype to look at here but at least it is on the way in a couple years." It's worth it just for the photograph. Maybe best to hold off on a plasma TV ...

This early post for Annabel Lee!
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love--
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me--
Yes!--that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we--
Of many far wiser than we--
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling--my darling--my life and my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

Wall-Mounted "Picture Frame?"

Hey, this is sort-of off-topic, but is does anyone have recommendation for similar (not necessarily organic) displays that can be mounted in a living room for displaying art work? I'd be most interested in best size for the price - not necessarily picture quality (nobody would be that close to it, trying to read small fonts) - but what displays are good for viewing angles that aren't directly perpendicular?

I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Horror/Sci Fi writer Stephen
King was found dead in his Maine home this morning. There weren't any
more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him
- even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his
contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.

The heroism of freedom fighters

In Bali, once again, we have seen the nobility and heroism of freedom fighters who persist on acting in self-defense against multinationalism and the United States.
The US cannot win its insane, imperialistic, self-appointed war against so-called "terrorism". The people of Bali have refused to accept enslavement. Their act of resistance is just and reasonable.
The death toll may seem horrifying to some, and others may smugly and hypocritically point out that all of the criminals exterminated by the freedom fighters were "innocent", but that innocence is merely personal; their true guilt is racial and social. Besides, those facts only prove how just the Islamic cause is: What other weapons do they have? Who else can they kill? To deny them Islamic militants the right to kill civilians is an act not only of censorship, but also of genocide, because they have no other means of defense. We must also remember that the horror of this act of resistance demonstrates the sincerity and fundamental morality of the resistance movement itself: Any act so horrific can only be the result of deep-seated frustrations.
The downtrodden people of the world have at last found a voice. Every charred corpse in that club in Bali is another verse in a powerful anthem of freedom and justice long deferred. I only hope that the freedom fighters of the world will be able to continue the fight. As a progressive humanitarian internationalist, I admire them more than words can say.
