Mitch Kapor's Outlook-Killer

Kent Brewster writes "In the San Jose Mercury this morning: 'For more than a year, [Mitch] Kapor and his small team have been working on what they're calling an open-source "Interpersonal Information Manager." The software is being designed to securely handle personal e-mail, calendars, contacts and other such data in new ways, and to make it simple to collaborate and share information with others without having to run powerful, expensive server computers.'" Kapor explains his intent in his own words.

Regarding the sexual abuse of anyone, by priests...
I am horrified at the fact that these abuses happened. I am horrified that there are evil things happening in, around, and to people who depend on the Church for an introduction the Truth. I am abhorred, as should be everyone, that abuses have happened.

I am also grateful that they came out. Extremely grateful. I am a man who has molested children. I'm nor proud of that (although I am proud...and vain...selfish...). What I did, I did as a wounded child, acting out my woundedness with others, trying to "figure out" what happened to me at 5, at the hands of three other people, on three seperate occasions. What I did, I stopped doing at around 16. That doesn't mean that what I did wasn't bad. It was bad. It was evil. It WAS THAT bad.

By the time I was 14 - 16, talk shows were blaring about the horrors of molestation; the evils of sexual abuse; the nastiness of it all...I watched those shows, and began to think I was nasty; I was evil; I was beyond redemption. I became suicidal. I began cutting myself. I embraced physical pain in order to torture myself, so that God wouldn't have to do so in purgatory. (I had been babtized, but I only very rarely made it to church.)

I swallowed all that pain and ignored it for 10 years. 1 - 1/2, maybe two years ago ago (I don't remember how long), I finally surrendered to Christ's call to return to the Church. He'd been calling me all that time - and I'd been ignoring Him - reading the bible sometimes, but not understanding it...and I said "OK, I'll go if you quit bugging me" (He hasn't been silent for a day in my life, though I've tried to ignore Him) I entered Catechesis . . .

I began volunteering at the parish - in Children's ministry nonetheless! - I'd followed one of the parishoners around for introductions, unknowing that she was going to a youth ministry meeting. When we got there, I guessed it was a calling.

I thought about becoming a priest. I asked my priest about priesthood, and we talked. I began attending daily masses, when it was suggested.

Within a few weeks, the good Bishop of Austin, Gregory Aymond, (a wonderful man, as far as weak humans go) introduced policies to protect children. I got out of youth ministry as quickly as I tried, without making a scene of it.

    No children were hurt.

One priest asked me what my "darkest secret was" (priests, take note!) - within 20 minutes, I was bawling.

As the year went on (catechesis), I went through more depression, and at times, despair. And more selfishness. God worked in me, though, and He led me to healing. I was referred to a wonderful counselor, whose hands God used to help me tremendously. I was confirmed at the Easter Vigil.

So the long and the short of it is, that (where have we heard this before?) my sins were as jet black, and stunk as year - old rotten anchovies. I finally surrendered to God, and He used the catholic Church to heal me!

  5. Feta by Anonymous Coward · · Score: -1, Offtopic
I first came across Feta cheese-the national cheese of Greece-in a excellent Greek restaurant in London. I took to it like the proverbial duck to water and ever since I have regularly bought it for my cheese board. Actually it is the sort of cheese you do need to keep refrigerated otherwise it very soon gets more than a bit mouldy.

Feta,or at least the original version, is a Greek cheese made from goat's or ewe's milk but these days you will often find it made also from cow's milk and it is produced outside of Greece. Indeed I quite often buy a packet from my local IKEA store and find it is produced in Sweden.

What is so special about Feta you might be inclined to ask ? Well it is a smooth, soft cheese, with a lovely salty, tangy and strong flavour. Now I like salty strong flavours and that is one of the reasons I like this particular cheese. It is a superb salad cheese withthe likes of peppers, lettuce, cucumber and olive oil. It is great with baked or jacket potatoes and I enjoy a slab on a water biscuit or even on a digestive biscuit. I also sometimes spread it on buttered toast and in a baguette and I reckon it goes very well in a wholemeal roll alongside a slice of smoked salmon.

You will find Feta cheese is widely available in UK supermarkets with prices ranging from over two pounds Stg for the 200 gr pack of the original Greek Organic down to about Stg1.50 for less authentic,ie.non Greek or cow's milk versions. as I mentioned previously I have found Ikea to be a good source of supply and I recently bought a 500 gr pack for a bargain Stg 3.50 pounds equivalent.

There you have it - a succinct review extolling the virtues of a great greek cheese. If you have to sample it I would recommend that you give it a try. I suspect that you might, like me, take to it just like the proverbial duck to water !

I can understand liking MSExplorer. It's pretty. It's slick. It integrates well with the operating system.

However, it's shoddy security has cost the country billions. Probably literally, though there's really no way to count. You can count parts of the cost, and say "Yeah, that was expensive", but there's no easy way to count the entire cost.

IE Explorer should DIE! This isn't just a licensing problem, like I have with most MS products. IE Explorer is vile! One of the things I most despise about the Mac is that it comes with IE Explorer installed, and is so configured that if you remove it you break things. (A totally unnecessary choice on their part, but $$ will buy cooperation.)

IEExplorer damages people who never come near any MS product. It probably damages people who don't even use the internet (at least if they own any stock).

So, yes, there's a lot to like about IE Explorer. And this doesn't excuse it. I like bell peppers, too. But I'm allergic to them, so I don't eat them, or things that contain them. A machine running IE is like a kid with the bubble-boy syndrome. It's immune system isn't working, so it needs to be kept isolated from everyone else. IE Explorer pokes a hole through the bubble.
