Xandros 1.0
Mr. Smoove writes "Despite the quick-off-the-mark review from Newsforge this morning, the Xandros 1.0 desktop is finally here! No free download so you'll have to shell out US$99 for it but you do get an enhanced (?) version of KDE 2.2 and built-in Cross-Over Plugin and Office! Finally a decent challenger to Lycoris and also what Lindows should have been..." There's also an interview with a Xandros executive.

NOT FIRST POST
A: We have a constant problem with people who are trying to break our system for no other purpose than they have nothing better to do--like their bosses haven't assigned them enough to do at work today, or that their mom hasn't made them mow the lawn, in most cases!
This is not that unexpected to me ... the closer in quality any packaged Linux distro will get to something like ... Apple's OS X, would you still believe that it'll come for free?!
:-)
....
Wake up, and zoom out a bit
Jokes aside, I'm glad something like this came out, maybe it'll kick some Redhat/SUSE/etc. asses, and create some competition for the money of that corporation out there, longing to cut costs, and move away from M$
They do have to stop posting urls on top of the front page.
"A lot of the more mainstream tech publications started reading us because we were getting a reputation for posting weird things that would come out and be much more important in the mainstream news, but we would be ahead of the curve. That still continues to this day. We break a story and a week later, MSNBC will pick it up. And then it goes the other way around, too; we are always pulling stories off of Web sites."
Yeah, serving up stale old tech stories from the WSJ is real "ahead of the curve"!
props to Trolling Stones for being the first poster in several years to engineer a clever means of sending me to goatse.cx.
I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Horror/Sci-Fi writer Stephen King was found dead in his Maine home this morning. Apparently, a freak storm dumped three feet of snow on the roof of Mr. King's house, which caused it to collapse and crush him while he was writing his new novel, "The Whorehouse Horror." I'm sure he will be missed by the Slashdot community - even if you didn't enjoy his work, his recipes for avocado brownies will be with us for generations. Truly an American icon.
There is wonder in most everything I see
Not a cloud in the sky
Got the sun in my eyes
And I won't be surprised if it's a dream
Everything I want the world to be
Is now coming true especially for me
And the reason is clear
It's because you are here
You're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen
I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world
Something in the wind has learned my name
And it's tellin' me that things are not the same
In the leaves on the trees and the touch of the breeze
There's a pleasin' sense of happiness for me
There is only one wish on my mind
When this day is through I hope that I will find
That tomorrow will be just the same for you and me
All I need will be mine if you are here
I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world
All I wanted was a deal on a sub sandwich, now I'm scarred for life.
Being that I am an American, you will be hearing from my lawyers!
Heh. "My God, an opinion! Quick, mod that man down!"
