KDE Developer Sirtaj Singh Kang Interviewed

highwaytohell writes "Sirtaj Singh Kang is a KDE developer and an official spokesman for KDE in Australia. In this interview conducted by the Sydney Morning Herald he talks about how the KDE project manages to maintain its hierarchy, where he sees KDE in the future, Linux portability issues and the relationship between Trolltech and KDE developers. The article gives a good insight into how maintainers and developers work to maintain one of the more popular window managers for Linux. Certainly worth a read."

Uh, I know. Admiral Kirk's real nemesis was Kahn. If my memory serves, Kang was a Klingon captain in a TOS episode (and maybe that Klingons-from-the-past DS9 ep.)

How do you change the resolution in KDE?

I installed Knoppix, the default resolution was too high for my monitor, so I used CTRL+ALT+- to reduce the resolution to 800x600, this works, but the desktop itself is still at a larger resolution, so I have to move my mouse to the egde of the screen and "scroll" around my desktop to view it all. How can I set it so the actual desktop is 800x600 also??!?

    PLEASE HELP

(Post AC if you're worried about getting modded as offtopic, but please reply if you know how!)

In KDE 3.1, you can set it in the Control Center, but prior to that, you had to reconfigure X, generally a task that each distro handles differently (not to mention each X server). In SuSE, it's in the Control Center under Hardware/Graphic Cards and Monitor, but most distros don't place their configuration utilities in the KDE Control Center, which means you'll have to poke around. It only works if you're using XFree, but since most Linuxes do, you should have no problem. You can also rotate the screen on the same panel.

Oh, and 3.1 isn't out quite yet - RC2 comes out tommrrow. It should be released in the next couple weeks.
