    Welcome to Slashdot, where we redefine the word "Open" however it suites us.

    Traditionally "Open" has meant only two things in this industry --
    1) Fully Documented
    2) Reasonable licencing.

    Things like UNIX, C, C++, NFS, etc were considered "Open Standards" long before some bureaucratic committee pissed on them.
