The Pentagon Wants Your Secrets

Teknogeek was one of the many readers to point out today's New York Times report on what one submitter dubbed "Son of Carnivore." "This should scare you: Vice Admiral John Poindexter wants to create a supercomputer capable of hunting through electronic databases all over the world, looking for suspected terrorists. According to the article, Poindexter outlines a need to '"break down the stovepipes' that separate commercial and government databases, allowing teams of intelligence analysts to hunt for hidden patterns of activity with powerful computers.'" Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Supreme Court is no longer a third branch of government. For matters passed up from lower courts, it will behave as it has traditionally behaved, but for matters that pertain to governing the U.S., it is now essentially part of the Republican Party and will assist the Bush Administration to the best of its ability.

Actually, in Virginia, they Gerrymandered the districts late in "the game" so about half the republicans running for congress went uncontested or where only up againsts some low fund independants.
