Nvidia GeForceFX(NV30) Officially Launched
egarland writes "Tom's Hardware has a new article previewing the new GeForceFX chip and discussing its architecture. 0.13 Micron, 16 GB/s memory bandwidth, 128-bit DDR2 memory interface, 125 M transistors, support for 8x FSAA. Sounds like an interesting chip. They stuck with a 128 bit memory bus so ATI's R300 still has more memory bandwidth (19.8 GB/s) but NVidia has new lossless memory compression so we will have to wait for benchmarks to see if NVidia comes up a winner here. The reference card also sports a massive new cooling system which is worth a look."

No shit, right? I installed the Detonator 40.41 drivers on my Windows 2000 Server machine so my lil sister could jump on and play a few rounds of UT2003 with me. As they say in Mexico, "No va!" The new 40.41 drivers brought the system to a screeching blue-screened halt and wouldn't even let me boot to safe mode. It took a complete reload of the server and being that I'm using roaming profiles and Mozilla at the same time, it makes life slightly less than a total bitch. So I spent 36 hours reloading and rebuilding my server so I could load my profile on my other machine. ...and what the hell is that stupid thumbtack for on the 40.72 interface??? Its more annoying than ever with that slide-out collapsable menu... what the hell were they thinking???
