Linus Torvalds On Linux 2.6
ceebABC writes "Linus Torvalds talks about the upcoming Linux 2.6 kernel, in an interview with eWEEK. Linus discusses the scalability and memory management in the new kernel. They also have a story about what's supposed to be in Linux 3.0."
Simple- linux still wont support my soundcard or any cool media file formats, so the copyrighted files still can't be played at all on a linux system (let alone copied or shared), and all digital rights are maintained.
Will it support pci modems?
Will it support touchpads on laptops?
Will the frame buffer work properly on 3dfx cards
Will it get rid of the fucking cli for good and boot DIRECTLY in to X
Will it tell Stallman to fuck off for trying to put gnu/ on it.
and last but most importantly, will you be able to to swtich kernels with out rebooting (is it that hard?, why dosent the kernel just unload it self from memory and go back to the boot menu?)
To see some amazing karma whoring, check Karpe's shameless post
Ive hurd it has got support for partitions up to 1.5 gb now, and it supports 256 color vga displays, as well as beta support for the pci bus (only isa was supported up until now)

I didn't say that I didn't learn... simply that I don't learn completely useless shit that does nothing but aggravate my life. I prefer to spend my time on other, really interesting pursuits, such as business, cars, biking, photography, travel, etc. Computers are tools. That's it. Sounds like the parent poster either has virtually no life outside of his dorm room, or has a very unhealthy obsession with electronic equipment, both of which can be helped with some intensive therapy.
Linus Torvalds chose to call it 2.6 because it's exactly 0.1% as good as the Atari 2600. It's totally true, but I've forgot the link. Someone who wants to be a karma whore might dig it up.
Excuse me, but I don't think support for trivia like ZOOM video support is reason enough for a rewrite to the left of the decimal point!
When do we get zero-configuration hardware?
When do we get proper, non-kludgified support for USB, Firewire and disks in general?
When do we get something approaching an OS that doesn't feel like it was thrown together in cheap?
And MS is actually cleaning up its act.
Ever consider that, genius?
