Amnesty Calls Shenannigans on MS, Sun, Cisco

ZurichPrague writes "Amnesty International is claiming Microsoft, Sun, Nortel and Cisco, among others, have broken the law by selling filtering technology to China, helping that country implement its censorship. Is Amnesty right? Making the technology is fine, but if we know that it could be used for ill, aren't we bound to not sell to some countries and companies? C/Net has the story here."

There is no legal obligation, because the relationship of technology to power, like all power relations, is protected by law. Geeks are technocrats, and technocrats are now and have always been fascism's elite cadre of evil henchmen. You think Open Source is a positive force for the world, but all it does is increase our dependence on sold-for-profit gadgets, which in turn rule our lives.

At one point the trolls were lively, creative, logged in people, now they simply w00t pathetically over logged out first posts. Helpful advice could be gained from the trolls - I fondly remember the "pooping at work" HOWTO, that taught me much of what I know, and today still helps me crap in peace at my workplace.

The other thing I notice, on my front page is the fucking "Radio" section. WTF - if nothing has happened since Jun the 29th the GET THE FUCK RID OF THE SECTION. Shit, even the BSD section gets more news, and that in spite of the fact that everyone knows that BSD is as dead as Stephen King.

From now on I shall wager a hate campaign against this section until it disappears. You are warned.

In other news, ZurichPrague said: "Making weapons of mass destruction is fine, but if we know that they could be used for ill, aren't we bound to not sell to some countries and companies? Nothing wrong with Iraq building nukes, as long as they don't sell them to the U.S. (the only country ever to nuke civilian population)."
