America's First WCDMA Call

k-hell writes "Ericsson and AT&T Wireless recently completed the first WCDMA/UMTS call in a live network environment in the Americas, capable of data transfer speeds of up to 384 Kbps. AT&T Wireless and Ericsson currently pursuing the path to 3G capabilities in the U.S. market by deploying EDGE-ready GSM/GPRS systems. This path ensures an evolution to EDGE, then UMTS, a wideband radio technology that provides mobile users with data rates up to 2 Mbps." This is not yet a strong enough reason to move to Dallas, though.

There are precious few reasons strong enough to make one move to Dallas.

All of you: morons. What's not good about Dallas? It does not smell like NY City, it does not take 3 hours to move 3 miles like in LA (both of which, I have unfortunately experienced). It actually has a large base of telecoms (which in recent months is not necessarily the best thing). TI is here, Alcatel is here, hundreds of other companies are here. Not only that, but we have a University here that actually has a Telecommunications Engineering degree, one of the first in the nation.

And if nothign else, who has a better record than the Maverics? That's what I thought. And the Stars aren't doing too bad themselves. Now the Cowboys on the other hand...

Now for the topic: I think its wonderful. I'm even getting GSM signal between here and Austin and Tyler.

I can't wait for WCDMA. Its better than Wi-Fi in the fact that I can travel from one side of the metroplex to another and not loose my signal. I'm not going to buy another handset soon, but when I do, it will be a WCDMA enabled one. I probably won't use it that much, but I like my toys.

How that for crappy postings? (yes I know it was)
