Psst! Eight Bits Gets You "The Two Towers" In China
rocodipoco writes "CNN reports on this article about DVDs of "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" were available in Shanghai two weeks ago for about $1 a pop, according to one Western film industry executive who visited that city. The film opens in North America on December 18. Interviewed at the CineAsia movie convention, the executive said as many as 40 street vendors were openly offering DVDs outside a Shanghai mall; he declined their offers, and thus can't verify the quality of the counterfeit copies. I personally want to wait for the movie to hit the big screen...it's all about the suspense. What do others think?"

According to Slashdot's archives, he hasn't posted since July 10th, 2002 That said, I googlized and couldn't begin to find a homepage for him. Nor anything recent he published.

>SOVIET RUSSIA
Er...communist Russia, or the Soviet Union.
How about this: IT FUCKING DOESN'T! DEAL WITH IT!
It's a movie. A movie about something completely unrelated. The title does not refer to the Twin Towers - it never has, never did, and never will. If you disagree, you've got some issues you need to resolve.
A large chunk of the world felt sympathy for those people involved with The Twin Towers casualty - hell, even I donated to the Firefighters and I'm on the other side of the planet. That said, it's time to move on with all of our lives.
If you think it's too soon for a movie whose name (and ONLY the name) reminds you of something that you probably saw on TV (and if you were at ground zero I apologise) then again, you've got some issues to work out.
And keep in mind that in some parts of the world, bombs and terrorism is actually a regular occurance - your illusion of safety was broken, but you won't get a lot of sympathy crying about it.
Re the WTC movie, guess what? I doubt the commemeration movie will be tasteful. In fact, I sincerely hope there's two versions - "domestic" and international: I'm sooo sick of all the US is soooo great bullshit in blockbuster movies (not that I watch many, for that reason). Any WTC movie is going to be a million times worse.
So how about you get over yourselves - the rest of the world has. That's why the LOTR movie won't be changing it's name for a few flag-toting, self-important, paranoid yanks.
And besides, even if was named after the Twin Towers, it's only Captitalism right? It's what the market demands! It's The American Way! To rename it would be to let the terrorist win!
you don't get it...
I hate you, you just don't understand me. That's so unfair!
