Psst! Eight Bits Gets You "The Two Towers" In China
rocodipoco writes "CNN reports on this article about DVDs of "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" were available in Shanghai two weeks ago for about $1 a pop, according to one Western film industry executive who visited that city. The film opens in North America on December 18. Interviewed at the CineAsia movie convention, the executive said as many as 40 street vendors were openly offering DVDs outside a Shanghai mall; he declined their offers, and thus can't verify the quality of the counterfeit copies. I personally want to wait for the movie to hit the big screen...it's all about the suspense. What do others think?"
So long, Karma, couldn't resist...
>call me naive, but LotR is one of those movies that people don't _want_ to pirate.
No way man. You're dead on. All this LotR bullshit is insane! You know what -- I not only won't pirate this crap, I WON'T WATCH IT!
Let's take a long movie and break it into three parts so we can extract more money from idiots who think they have to watch every film made from a book.
I have one (or so) word for anyone who thinks movies do justice to books: Dune. The short version.
Blech. I can't believe how totally ape-shit people go over this crap. I know someone who actaully re-bought the DVD of the original because they release a "special edition".
Fuck, you know what? I'm a big trekkie fan, but hey, I DON'T HAVE A SINGLE MOVIE. It's on TV all the time, and, after you've seen it once, WHO GIVES A SHIT.
In the end, everyone, please, just get a life. There's better things to do than listen to me rant and rave, and there's better things to do than waste your hard earned cash on a dead author's movie.
You're the idiot. The fact that the book was titled 47 years ago is irrelevant. The title of this movie does, in fact, evoke memories of that horrible day. Since people are making money off this movie, it would be in good taste to change the title. Making money off the misery of others is morally reprehensible.
purely coincidental?
/. crowd.
The title clearly refers to the attacks on the WTC. End of argument.
It's wrong to use that as the title. It's too soon. Some people are still dealing with the aftermath of 9/11. That title could easily be changed and not offend people still dealing with tragedy.
They didn't make or release Shindler's List a year after the holocaust. It was made long after the fact, after people had a chance to deal. It was a testement to their struggle.
I'm sorry that it is soooo important to you and your fantasy world that the title remains. Some things are real; some are pretend. Pretending that pretend things are more important than the real, current suffering of others in the world is selfish, even for the pro-piracy
I'm sure that there will be a movie made about the attacks on the WTC in the future. I bet it will be a tasteful commeration of the American spirit. Too bad those involved with "The Two Towers" choose greed in the guise of, I don't even know, "artistic integrity," rather than good taste.
Yeah, they sure do like to toke it up in the Shire. The thing I don't get is why they all smoke those weak as pipes all the time. No joints, no bongs. You'd think Gendalf would have the crazy 18" glass that would really blow your mind man. Or a bubbler at least.
I've got the panoramic, 21 inches right here for ya. If you're good, I'll slap a nice mushroom bruise across your face.
