The End of Solotrek

But it all comes down to dollars in the end, and, with a recent test-flight accident and a missed milestone, Trek Aerospace is calling it quits."

    All slashdot has been today is about Open sores charity donations and the screw ups in the areospace industry. No wonder you are being beaten by rivals such as google news, the register and fark(!)!.

    What's it with people afraid of these things running out of fuel? When's the last time you saw somebody run out of fuel and coast to a stop in a car? Or a motorcycle? Or a private jet?

    There are reasons to be skeptical of the Solotrek, but this really is not one of them.

    But it all comes down to dollars in the end...

    Wrong, puddle of splattered protoplasm-breath! It all comes down to gravity. And this machine is one of the stupider ways to defy it. Any small problem, any problem at all, and this thing achieves terminal velocity.

    Dumb idea. Dumb!
