The State of GNU/Linux in 2002: It was Good.
An anonymous reader writes "This year has proven most interesting for GNU/Linux. While there was not any amazing surprises, there were numerous events that are noteworthy for review. The upshot to all of this is that most of what happened was good overall for the Free Software community. Read the full story."
It was a good pape^H^H^H^H year... bummer.
You can't handle the truth.

The past few weeks, I have been looking into how Slashdot has changed over the past few years and I have come to a very disturbing conclusion.
Remember how CmdrTaco implemented the friend and foe system? Well, as you probably know, he has created an account
called No More Trolls and as indicated by this journal entry, CmdrTaco is out to censor Slashdot through proxy-like means.
Of course, if we want to go way back to the winter, I can refer to this comment where the Slashdot admins decided to "bitchslap" this post to the very ends of the Earth. Or I could refer to this petition asking Slashdot to stop what it is doing with moderator points and the two posts a day limit with -10 karma accounts. Of course, Jamie says otherwise.
Oh wait, censoring is bad according to Slashdot! Just look at all the articles that they post on major corporations trying to stop the flow of free speech. Oh wait, trolls are bad and aren't contributing to anything, lets make sure that they cannot be seen but still allow posting! Lets control how much they post in a day!
CmdrTaco, you state that you have an open and free enviroment here. Cut the crap and admit that you do not like the way the system is. If you at least admit it there is some decency in all of this but otherwise, I think you're being a twat over this and deserve nothing but shit from everybody. As stated in the first journal entry I posted, what will you do if this gets sold to a major corporation such as AOL/TW? Do you seriously think they'll allow free speech to continue on this website?
"News for nerds. Stuff that matters" is a farce as it should be "Linux rules. Microsoft drools."
Feel free to reply, moderate, whatever.
If you're taking slashdot this seriously, you need to find a new hobby.

the strongest word is still the word "free"

Anyone have a mirror for people who aren't using ICANN's legacy DNS servers? Or maybe an IP-based URI?

Look at this list of poll search results and look at the bottom one. Its creation date is midnight on the 1st of January 1970!!
Not only is this an amazing story, but it really is noteworthy in its own respect to see how it overall leads one to conclude that the free software community is having alot of trouble taking off; seeing how it is surprising to realize that there is this subconcious fact brewing in everyone's mind which leads them towards an description; having no sense of what success is using rhetoric to spread sacreligious beliefs and views about the way it should be done, considering Lennon was using tactics approximately close to what could be described as an apparant reason contrasted to the opposistion's arguments, then branching off another seemingly apparant and obvious reason in contrast to the defense of the argument, and continuing this way we see a pattern which is not to help those in any way, but rather to destroy capitolism, and that was his goal -- and people bought into that, and most have failed.
It's all good. It's all right. Fsck all day. Fsck all night.
Sorry...
There are a huge number of yeast infections in this county. Probably because we're downriver from the bread factory.
I so wish to have mod points for gems like this one but that never happens. You've made me laugh.
No man is an Iland, intire of it selfe; every man is a peece of the
Continent, a part of the maine; if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea,
Europe is the lesse, as well as if a Promontorie were, as well as if
a Mannor of thy friends or of thine owne were; any mans death diminishes
me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to know
for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.
-- John Donne, "No Man is an Iland"
