Metaverse Launched?

jlouderb writes "Following in the heels of Worlds Inc. Blaxxun Interactive and Linden Labs, super-stealth project There Inc. launches Wednesday at CES. ExtremeTech has a preview of the world up, which is characterized by expressive avatars that look like idealized humans. Backed by a long list of notables, including Halsey Minor, Trip Hawkins, Jane Metcalfe and Louis Rosetto, it's an ambitious effort. But will the target market of Wal-Mart moms show up? Who knows, we all laughed at AOL too. You can sign up for the public beta and find out for yourself."

What is this story about? I saw a bunch of proper names that mean absolutely nothing to me. Blaxxun was from that sci-fi book, right? So what's the deal? Is this some sort of VR ISP or just another MMORPG or what?

Read my journals to see what a hypocrite he is.

He rails against "censorship", then uses the "bitchslap" script with no restriction to mod down the people he disagrees with.

Down with michael! Users got rid of JonKatz, we can do the same with this worthless, flamebaiting, sarcastic git.

That's the same thinking I have, but hey, people like to copy FPS until they oversaturate the market, so why not?

Good quote, too many chars. Seriously, the slashdot 120 char limit sucks!

Sooner or later, these MMORPGs will saturate the market. It'll be interesting the first time one of them folds.

No kidding. Apparently their target audience is comprised of middle aged women and adolescent boys. For some reason it reminds me of the Slashdot PT Cruiser.

    It's a nice day outside.

Obviously you're not Canadian. It's winter here. No day is a nice day. Perhaps some are slightly less nasty...
