Chimera Developer Considers Dropping It

The Infamous Grimace writes "Chimera's developer is seriously considering dropping it, since 'Safari has already won.' This would be unfortunate, indeed. I still use Chimera at times, although it's true that Safari has become my browser of choice." I cannot use Safari regularly, it lacks too many features and has too many bugs. Of course, how long will this remain so? But even if Safari adds tabs and fixes bugs, will they add all the features I need from Chimera/Mozilla, like remembering form passwords, site navigation bar, more fine control of security and privacy? I guess there is always Mozilla if Safari doesn't fit the bill ... but Chimera is so much faster and Mac-like. Update: 01/22 19:54 GMT by P : The web site has been updated: "Chimera's not going [away], regardless of whatever I post on this blog."

  1. Death to Open Source by Anonymous Coward · · Score: -1, Flamebait

Apple hates to compete. Sorry, but it's true. They want to "build the whole widget". That means EVERYTHING. You make music on your Mac? We'll make the music software. Movies? We just bought a company, we'll make the software. MS Word? Haha. Give us six months. Browsers? MS has their own, why not us?

WE DON'T LIKE THIRD-PARTY SHIT ON OUR COMPUTERS. YOU ALL SUCK AND CAN'T DO IT RIGHT. YOU CAN BEST HELP THE COMPUTER WORLD BY STOCKING SHELVES AT WALMART.

The worst thing out there, in Apple's eyes, is open source. Because Apple loses PRECIOUS CONTROL....YESS, LOVES ME PRECIOUS PRECIOUS CONTROLLL.... HARDWARE, OS, APPLICATIONS, PERIPHERALS, YESSSS.....

Open source is a tool to gain much-needed apps and functionality, and thus market share. But Apple is STRONGLY against Open source internally. Any other message is propaganda. Apple NEEDS those millions of linux hackers on board. We're dropping market shared daily, bleeding to death, and only a distasteful hippie code and money infusion can bring Apple back.

But mark my words: WHATEVER open-source product you release onto Mac OS X WILL be co-opted, copied, and re-released as proprietary by the Apple Collective. Unless it's under that Damn GPL "enforced freedom" license that can't be raped. We don't even look at that stuff. Thank God for BSD freeware.

But I can see you've all made up your minds without looking at the facts, only the pretty GUI. Sorry to waste your time.

I tried Linux before, thought it could be a contender. Pretty cool, but needed to work on those rough edges. I was excited for about a week until I remembered that the human race is lazy and these losers wouldn't be able to keep up to a real os. They'd rather surf the net all day like the rest of us. And when they ARE coding, they're making Atari emulators and other useless crap that nobody's ever gonna use.

OS X is ALMOST like linux, so you can still feel like a kewl little hacker while not actually learning anything except how JLo looks naked.

I guess Linux is dead, and Apple killed it. Just give up, linux hackers. License all your code as freeware so us real hackers can add it to our products and sell them back to you. You don't want to create when you can buy from us, do you? You're not a creator, you're a CONSUMER.
    Now eat what you're served.
