South Pole to Get Highway

tetrad writes "The New Scientist magazine reports that the US is building a road to the South Pole. The "highway" would cross the Ross Ice Shelf and then pass through the Transantarctic Mountains (map here). Convoys of tractors will be the only traffic on the road, bringing fuel and heavy equipment to the South Pole, as well as enabling the installation of a $250M fibre-optic communications cable (discussed previously)."

Just in time for global warming to melt the ice shelf, sinking their $12 Million highway. Your tax dollars at work, people.

With global warming, we can't count on a consisten ground - it might flood.

That would be more troublesome if global warming actually existed. I'm sitting in Florida enjoying record-low temperatures around 24 degrees mid-day, and my inbox still has a few e-mails from a friend in South Carolina who was fretting over the giant evil ice storms that ripped across the US recently.

Global warming is hand-wringing hippie bullshit.
