Is AIM Really a Bandwidth Hog?
Crispen asks: "A mess of schools, especially K-12 schools in the US, have banned instant messaging, claiming that it is a huge bandwidth hog. Is it? If you block ports 4443 (images) and 5190 (file transfers), how much bandwidth does AIM really take?"

. . . network filters YOU!
Seriously though, am I the only one who's tired of working with hamstrung computer systems just because a few people ruined it for everyone else? If one guy is abusing the network, restrict his access and let the rest of us keep working. And if the whole class is distracted by the computers during your lecture, don't lecture in a computer lab! Why do kids need a computer on every desk during lectures anyway? As a student, I'd rather have limited time with computer resources than limited computer resources.
