Blacker Than Black

An anonymous reader writes "British scientists at the National Physical Laboratory in London have invented the darkest material on Earth. 'It could revolutionise optical instruments because it reflects 10 to 20 times less light than the black paint currently used to reduce unwanted reflections. The key to the nickel and phosphorous coating's blackness is that its surface is pitted with microscopic craters.' Wonder how effective it would be as a solar heating surface ?"

Pardon me for posting off-topic, but I am looking for a story that was posted on /. some time last summer around June or July. It was about a program that was being designed for Pocket PC that would allow you to input by way of scrolling boxes that would automagically guess the next letter in a specific word by making the next concurrent box bigger and smaller according to the dictionary used. If someone could please reply to this question, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks

Nah, houses in the uk get haunted in 100 years too but the ghosts are afraid to show themself in ethereal society because until the home is at least 300-400 years old they *obviously* can't be respected...

Jeez! Look, moderators, "Off-topic" is for interjections having little or nothing to do with the conversation, like "BSD is dying" posts in the middle of a Natalie Portman / hot grits discussion. The nature of Slashdot is such that it is a conversation, and as such it roams a bit.

You've only got what, 5 mod points? You just threw away 20% of them to spank me, instead of using them to commend somebody who was informative or funny, or to spank somebody who got really ofensive (and in a discussion involving the word "black", that's damned near inevitable.)

Save your ammunitin for real targets.
