Atari Arcade Division Closes

Bill Kendrick writes "Today Midway dropped the axe on 'Midway Games West' (Formerly Atari Games Corporation). The remaining 30 people working there have been laid off. The other half of Atari, who went on to make the Atari ST line of computers and Jaguar and Lynx game systems, is still alive and kicking, as part of Infogrames. Still, it's a sad day for gamers."

Still, it's a sad day for gamers.

Not just a sad day for gamers, but a sad day for us all: I just read on CNN.com that veteran character actor Vincent Price, star of countless horror movies, has succumbed to lung cancer at the age of 82. Also an accomplished writer and chef, Price starred in over a hundred films during his illustrious career, including "The House of Usher," "The Pit and the Pendulum," and "The Abominable Dr. Phibes," though Slashdot readers may perhaps remember him best for providing the "rap" for the title song of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album. Survived by third wife Coral Browne, Price's ashes will be scattered at sea according to his wishes in a ceremony next week. Truly an American icon, and a great loss to cinema.
