Sci-fi Channel's Children of Dune

jazdogg writes "Caught the trailer last night on the Sci-fi Channel for the new Frank Herbert's Children of Dune mini-series. I only hope this series is better than the previous one." I dunno - I liked the last Dune series, and am looking forward to this one.

Not sure about you all but i never tend to see Linux or any other real operating environment portraid in these sci-fi flicks.

Their cool -- don't get me wrong - but I just wished they'd use more relistic computers. Did you see The Recruit? It's horrible b/c everything is accurate but the computers.

Why spend $$4 making the movie so accurrate but then skimping on the computer details? Some of us know computing!

    Dear Apple,

I am a homosexual. I bought an Apple computer because of its well earned reputation for being "the" gay computer. Since I have become an Apple owner, I have been exposed to a whole new world of gay friends. It is really a pleasure to meet and compute with other homos such as myself. I plan on using my new Apple computer as a way to entice and recruit young schoolboys into the homosexual lifestyle; it would be so helpful if you could produce more software which would appeal to young boys. Thanks in advance.

Right now, it seems the Gulf War could just be weeks away. Just days ago, it was discovered laws were being written in secret that removed the rest of America's constitutional protections.

And with the global information network, people can learn whatever they want about what's happening in these chaotic times. People can discuss these things too. Kind of a miracle the ability for people to educate and discuss things.

And what are people talking about just weeks away from some potentially big war? Well this it. Science fiction, television, sports, gossip. Out on the street, people act in a similar way. They're just not interested. I don't know how else to explain it.

Sometimes you'll see people say something aout what's happening in the world but it's just in passing. It's like "I'm outraged!" And then an hour or two later they settle before their televisions, all thoughts about the world drowed out by whatever fictional world they've immersed themselves into.

It's frustrating but somehow people are just wired this way. Can't pay attention to anything for any amount of time.

I've been observing how people respond to things in the news for the past couple years. Seeing how people interact with each other. And I'm drawing to a conclusion that people aren't really evil or bad, but just simple. Have a very narrow ability focus on the world, and when that focus moves away from something, that thing ceases to exist to them. Compounding the problem is they waste their limited ability to focus on the trivial. They focus on sports, television, science fiction. And while they're little spots of perception are being saturated with garbage information, the real world moves onward without them.

Human beings are simple and vulnerable creatures. And I just hope we don't have to learn too harsh a lesson before the problems of the real world become some so poigniant and painful they begin to penetrate into the depths of the general population's stupor.

Observe the responses to this post. People will be angry. In 2003 it's nearly impossible to communicate with other human beings about reality. They shout you down, censor you, insult you.

Here's my impression of whsat times were like in 2003. Go to the zoo and observe the monkey section. Watch what they're doing, and then ask yourself how concerned they are with current events in your current time. That is about how the human beings act in 2003 in regards to the real world. It may as well not even exist to them. They just can't see it.
