Intel: No Rush to 64-bit Desktop
An anonymous reader writes "Advanced Micro Devices and Apple Computer will likely tout that they can deliver 64-bit computing to desktops this year, but Intel is in no hurry. Two of the company's top researchers said that a lack of applications, existing circumstances in the memory market, and the inherent challenges in getting the industry and consumers to migrate to new chips will likely keep Intel from coming out with a 64-bit chip--similar to those found in high-end servers and workstations--for PCs for years."
Hey I got firt post bitch!
Eat my mommas cunt ridden smelly panties! heh heh eat that cmdrtaco!
If Intel keeps on braking a lot of people will get really disappointed when they realize they need more memory than their platform supports.
My God! Have you told Intel this? By listening to their industry experts instead of you they could be loosing billions.
You better mail Craig.Barrett@intel.com as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, I am not Wil Wheaton
I'm sure Intel will rush to make Palladium and TCPA compliant hardware for Micro$oft.

Well, many people already have 4Gb (four gigabits), it's 4 *Gbyte* which is the interesting barrier. I don't mean to be pedantic but when you are talking about memory sizes it's important to get these things right.
(Some people advocate using 'b' to mean byte or octet but IMHO they are Wrong. I think I am with the majority in saying that 'b' abbreviates 'bit', the smallest whole unit of information.)

eat a fucking dick, cum-smearer
no you dont need 64 bit today. sorry epic were not gonna release a 64 bit processor for your "games" i say why dont you just tighten up that code a little bit rather than having lazy programmers. its been a growing trend for programmers to be more lazy when programming apps, mainly because processors are so fast who needs to worry with programming in a tight spot. also you fail to realize most of the world doesnt know what a AMD is so this whole amd is going to take over is a flawed statment. sure intel makes mistakes (big ones) but they also have all of the distributed computer companies releasing there product. dell/compaq/gateway and thats where most of the computers are sold. im close to a company that just upgraded they bought 300 p3 700's for their office. guess what they dont need 64 bits of power or the new 3 gig processor. real business has real limits and the need isnt there.
:P
personally i run a 800mhz duron and a 3.06intel my 3.06 is still on the floor i havent found a need to buy a powersupply for it (got chip for free) because my 800 does everything i need. sure games arent 100% smooth always but you know what they run good enough to be playable and enjoyable. unreals graphics are 2 cheezy anyway with no option to turn them down. so until there is a true need for new innovation ill stick wif the smaller stuff and save my money and do things like have fun rather than spend my time reading rumors and hand-slapping information from the nerd community. I would rather see them work on the bandwith restrictions of the motherboards. if you crack the numbers you will see that the limitations are on the motherboard for a large part now that we are increasing so far in speed.
flame away, i know you will
