Proposed Usenet Death Penalty for Australia's Largest ISP
supine writes "David Ritz has issued a request for discussion on applying a Usenet Death Penalty to Australia's largest ISP, Bigpond (and it's parent company Telstra)." This brought back to memory the time when AOL was facing similar charges.
Wait a second... Is Usenet even still around? Didn't they morph into SpamNet or something?
Usenet used to be a great resource, but I've found it nearly unusable for the last 3 years (or more). If it wasn't for Google groups (Dejanews), I wouldn't even consider it a semivaluable source.
If they remove the ISP that the spam originates from, the spammer will just find new ISPs.

And if you're going to conspire to obstruct international signals traffic during a time of heightened anti-terrorist sentiment, it's always best to ask people's opinion about it first and make sure everyone knows your name and how to spell it. It just makes sense!
yet another lame article that no one really cares about. i mean, who the fuck uses USENET anymore? I haven't used USENET since I had a 2400 baud modem and AOL 3.0. Getting pr0n consisted of downloading a couple of gifs and jacking off to that for a week. now it's get onto the free pr0n sites and it's all the pr0n you can wank to.

Well I can say that this is bad on my part, but it should be done, i'll just go with another ISP (HERE THAT YOU BARSTEDS IM CHANGING BECAUSE OF YOUR CRAPPY SERVICE). This is a great thing to happen, it will make the internet a better place.

The real reason this is being done to the Aussies is that everybody knows that the Aussies will take whatever is dished out to them. Heck, the people there can't even own real guns, not even to protect themselves!
Remember the Bali nightclub bombings? The death toll was some tiny percentage of Americans, and mostly Australians. What the bombers said? Essentially, they said, "too bad."
Australian people should learn to be more assertive about their rights, and also should learn to handle their own affairs, instead of relying on the rest of the world to do it for them.
As a sidenote, I would be perfectly happy if MUDs agreed to block all Australians. SMSS (SMS Syndrome) began with these guys' inability to abbreviate words they never knew how to spell in the first place.
Add up the traffic in his message, it's not costing anyone "lots of money." That's a fiction used to justify these overreaching actions.
