Why Browser Innovation Matters
dvanatta was one of a several people who noted a new article by Mitchell Baker on Mozilla.org about why browser innovation matters - especially Gecko, and why it will survive things like Safari Whoops - got the name wrong. Updated.
We just had an article on tabbed browsing, and why its super-important. Not long before that, one on mouse gestures. And not long before that, one on how to improve the history/forward/next feature. The killer app for the web browser is browsing.
I mean these browser folks sure spend a lot of time jawing to justify their own existance. We get it already, yeah yeah yeah. Important new features and innovation.
Do they just like to hear their own voices? Do they fancy themselves media darlings?
I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!!!!
You're mistaken. She doesn't write about technology. She writes about a Mac. So it's actually quite fitting that she's a she...
"survive things like Safari??" like Safari is an affront to browser technology?? fuck you! read this:
"What is clear is that both Camino and Safari are wicked fast browsers. This is excellent news. In addition, Safari uses code and ideas from Gecko, and high quality ideas from the KHTML/Safari world will make their way back into Gecko."
now, crawl back under your slimy rock.
I recently decided to go away from Microsoft software and use mozilla. What a piece of crap software it is. Among the dozens of problems I found;
-Mozilla did not want to install flash/shockwave
-Mozilla locked up upon viewing sites with flash/shockwave or upon seemingly other random sites as well (total lockup).
-Mozilla cannot import IE bookmarks correctly
-Mozilla cannot import Outlook ANYTHING correctly. That includes emails, addresses, and preferences, all which it claims it can
-Mozilla locks up my system while downloading emails from server
-Mozilla locks up my system while uploading emails to server
Basically, it is almost completely useless as a browser and an email client. Maybe it doesn't have the outlook security holes, but I suspect that is more because it really doesn't work. At least Outlook works. And Outlook is fast. And IE is fast and IE works too.
I strongly recommend against anyone using this software, especially if you want to switch from IE and/or Outlook and you expect any bookmarks, email addresses, or emails to follow. Mozilla is a slow piece of crap.
Rant rant rant.
