Al Gore Joins Apple's Board Of Directors

zzxc writes "News.com.com reports that Al Gore has been chosen to be on Apple's board of directors. Apple has a press release with more information. According to the press release, 'Al brings an incredible wealth of knowledge and wisdom to Apple from having helped run the largest organization in the world--the United States government' and 'He has remained an active leader in technology--launching a public/private effort to wire every classroom and library in America to the Internet.' The inventor of the internet should be a valuable asset to Apple."

Huh? Apple goes to extra effort to screw over people at every turn.

-Aggressive legal department that goes after anything that even remotely looks like an Apple design, sending cease-and-desist letters to theme/skin designers.

-blatant price fixing. Apple sets a minimum price, and you CANNOT go below that. You cannot best Apple's prices in their stores/on their website.

-They're blasting away their own Apple Authorized Dealer network as fast as they possibly can, telling customers the Authorized Dealers are scum etc, crippling the dealer's margins, giving them lowest priority on new model releases, etc. No wonder the Apple Stores have been doing well.

-They hold a monopoly on service- it's one company, in East Buttfuck Texas. Horror story after horror story about systems getting lost, broken even further, original problem goes unfixed, etc.

-They DO NOT sell parts. Period. Somehow, parts are available from certain shady outfits(thepowerbookguy.com, pbparts.com) that sell the parts for almost 10x what they should cost(example: Powerbook Lombard video cable, $160. Example, Powerbook Lombard keyboard: $120+. Example: Powerbook screen clutch, $90 per SIDE.)

-repairs are only possible via mail-in service and with outrageous fees(almost $500 just for them to -LOOK- at the system!)

-They have the worst refund/return policies(no returns on any build to order systems, period. On shipped systems they claim 10 days from date of reciept; over the phone, however, a friend was told repeatedly her system was unreturnable because it had been 10 days since it was SHIPPED FROM APPLE. Guess how it was shipped? UPS Ground. Oh, they also counted weekend days!)

-They have the worst support- 90 days only; Dell and Gateway offer 3x that. Their 'extended warantee' is prohibitively expensive.

-The vast majority of Apple products(not just computers) have had one sort of defect or another...the Powerbook line in the last 5-6 years has been so chock full of glitches, defects, problems etc it's not even funny.

-They bait-and-switch customers(hello, .Mac! 'Free for life" suddenly became "until Steve realizes you can't make a profit off giving away free mail accounts and webspace")

-Horrible system availability. If Steve announces a system at Macworld, you'll be lucky to get it -months- later. Orders for systems are sometimes delayed for weeks because of problems getting one component or another. Apple has quite possibly the most pathetic, unreliable supply chain in the world.

First, America is a continent, not a country.

Thank you for revealing a total lack of understanding in your opening statement, so readers could safely ignore the rest of your wrong-headed rant.

North America is a continent. So is South America.

America is a country. When people say "China," they usually mean "The People's Republic of China." Likewise, when people say "America," they are speaking of "The United States of America."

Please note that it's not "Some United States Which Happen To Be Located On The Continent Of North America, Except For One State Which Is A Cluster Of Islands In The Middle Of The Pacific Ocean." That's because the "A" in "USA" refers to the country's name, not the continent.

Say it isn't so!
