Humor in Times of War?

miradu asks: "With the nation in such a serious mood in such dire times, what are we supposed to do for humor? April Fool's Day is just around the corner, but that's only for one day! Sites like The Onion will always be around to poke fun at things, but what are some other smaller sites that are writing some good satire/parodies of the current situations? I need to laugh!"

    GOD BLESS FOX NEWS!

Seriously, though... if you're in the right frame of mind, it can be damn funny. ...until you realize they might be serious...

nah. No way they could be serious!

Twirlip, I found this from your journal. I'm surprised you didn't post it here.

Read this, folks. This is funny.

When antiwar demonstrators gathered outside the Fox News building in Manhattan, the network's outdoor news zipper replaced its headlines with taunts:

"War protester auditions here today. . . . Thanks for coming!" And: "How do you keep a war protester in suspense? Ignore them." And: "Attention protesters: The Michael Moore Fan Club meets Thursday at a phone booth at Sixth Avenue and 50th Street."

Unfair and unbalanced? "I thought I'd have some fun with it," says Fox zipper-writer Marvin Himelfarb, a former Hollywood screenwriter. "I couldn't resist."

I saw Fox News do a short impromptu interview with an anti-war protester about a week ago that had me laughing.

Fox Reporter: Do you think Saddam Hussien should be removed from power in Iraq?
      AWP: Yeah.
Fox Reporter: But you think it's wrong to use military action to do that?
      AWP: Yeah.
      Fox Reporter: So how then?
      AWP: Umm [end of interview]

Well, I just sent out a horrible email to some key members of our account team as an April Fools' joke.

We have been working for 3 months on a custom application rollout for a very large client. Coincidentally, it goes live tomorrow at 9am. I feel so bad, I sent out an email just now as I'm double checking everything. It's marked high priority and was sent to the 30 plus people that participated on the project. We have worked 13+ hours a day, every single day, for the past 3 weeks to make sure every thing goes smoothly.

And they will wake up in the morning and read the bright red email that says the server has crashed, all data since 12/02 has been lost because backups went down. We have to redo all graphics, layouts, eps's, data entry, everything people! We are in major trouble! I'm truly sorry for the immense screw up.

It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't shut everything down and cron it to wake up at 8:45am (it goes live at 9am, don't fail me now cron!).

Oh man, I could lose my job over this. Ha ha.

No, this joke doesn't represent my opinion on the war, and no, I don't think there's much to laugh at regarding the war either. Just figured I'd post it for informational purposes.
