Chinese Sites Band Together To Counter Google

egoff writes "The China Search Alliance is a coalition of over 200 Chinese internet portals that have joined together to try to capture the Chinese search market before Google can "invade." Started by China.com.cn, an official government portal, the CSA has now expanded to include mainly commercial, non-governmental, Chinese sites. According to Guangzhou-based New Express News, Google has already approached several Chinese firms about forming a partnership. Being that it started in the government, this looks like a tool for greater control while appearing to be in open competition with Google."

    Eventually you hope that having a high quality search engine developed by chinese companies would help capitalism displace communism...that's the whole idea ...

    Let them build search engines. Let them sell it to us. Let them understand what democracy and capitalism are like...and we don't need any flaimbait bushisms here...for the most part americans are quite well off. Go to Egypt sometime and you'll then understand poverty.

    Yep. That was along the lines of my first response too....
    "China.com.cn???? GAh! the freakin spammers!!! DIE you spam chucking PIGS!"

    Now, when I get spam from a china.com.cn netblock I just started denying the whole block. If I had my druthers, they'd be null-routed until they promised to stop spamming the universe.

    We can better understand the American mentality by looking at the Middle East. Americans are totally silent when Israel have serious human rights issues in Palestine, or when USA themselves bomb the shit out of Iraq, killing many civilians. Oh wait, they are not only silent, they actually support the atrocities! You have the nerve to call Beijing a supplier of weapons, when USA is the largest weapon supplier in the world of all! I'm not condoning what the communists do, but to accuse Chinese in this way is pure stupidity on your part.
