Congress to Make PATRIOT Act Permanent
955301 writes "As if it was unexpected, the New York Times (free reg...) has an article on attempts by our Congressional Republicans to eliminate the expiration of the Patriot Act. Everyone may thank Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah for getting this 9/11 snowball rolling, and the general population for our current leadership." There's another story in the SF Chronicle.

A year and a half without a terrorist act. Either the Patriot Act works or the terrorists have been in a good mood lately. My guess is the former.

Errr - try again. The terrorists you had were of two breeds:
1. Commies - they kind of withered on the vine once the Soviets went bye-bye. Europe did nothing that stopped them, other than house the US military.
2. Mid-east terrorists - you guys did learn to deal with this. How? 3 easy steps - pay blood money to the PLO..err..Palestinian Authority, blame the jews, and let the terrorists meet and recruit there. Is it a coincidence that most of the 9/11 hijackers were recruited at university in Germany? Ever wonder why the Abu Nadals of the world stopped terror attacks in Europe, like the Achille Lauro hijacking or the attack on the airport in Rome?
Basically, just like the Barbary Coast pirates 2 centuries ago, you guys passed the buck and the US stepped up to the plate. History repeats itself.

One of the prime reasons that we need the Patriot Act is that the Chinese are dire threat to the security of this country. Consider the shocking story, "Ex-FBI man, Chinese lover held in spy case", that just came across the newswire. An American of Chinese ancestry sold out her country, the USA. This Chinese gave vital information about our national security to Beijing.
