Intel Demonstrates 220Mbps Variant of UWB
MattyIce writes "InfoWorld has a story about a yet to be approved standard for a high-speed, short distance communications standard. Last year, Intel demonstrated 100MBPS speeds but they have bumped the speed up to 220MBPS this time." Fast stuff, but I imagine it'll be a long time before it comes to market. I haven't even upgraded my wireless network to 802.11g yet!

The Hopi Indians were a tribe of Pueblo Indians. They live in northeastern Arizona. There name is short for Hopituh Shi-nu-mu which means "the peaceful people." The Hopi have different clans named after different animals and food. The Hopi occupied three mesas known as the First Mesa, Second Mesa, and Third Mesa. A mesa is a flat topped hill. The First Mesa is the easternmost mesa. The Second Mesa is in the middle. The Third Mesa is located in to the west. All three mesas can be seen from each other.
Homes
Hopi homes, or pueblos, were made out of adobe (a type of mud) and sandstone. These buildings were several stories high and had no doors or windows. One family's floor was another family's roof. To access these dwellings the Hopi put holes on the roofs of every house. Ladders would stick out of the hole so that the Hopis could get in and out of there houses easily. The Hopi would pull the ladders up when under attack so that no one could get into their homes. The people sat on built-in stone benches and slept on blankets on the floor. A pueblo may be as high as four or five stories.
Food
The Hopi depended on farming, gathering, and hunting for their food. Their main crop was maize (Indian corn). Maize was used for several dishes and other uses. Piki, a bread made out of blue cornmeal, was a special treat to the Hopis. To make piki, the Hopi women would mix blue cornmeal with boiling water to make the batter. Then the women would grease a stone griddle with toasted squash seeds. They would pour this batter onto hte stone griddle and wait a few seconds. When the piki was cooked, the women rolled it up and let it sit out. After some time it would become crispy. This was eaten at special ceremonies. Chukuviki is another special dish made of cornmeal. Moistened cornmeal was made into stiff dough and rolled into crescent shapes. It was then steamed or dipped in boiling water. One place this was commonly eaten was at weddings. Hopis could eat maize on a cob or make it into a drink called pinole, a mix of ground roasted dry corn and cold water. Small stalks of corn could be used for beddings. Pipe bowls were made out of corncobs.
The Hopis also grew squash, pumpkins, gourds, beans, cotton, onions, chilies, and melons. They gathered roots, leaves, berries, nut, seeds, and agave. Agave is an edible wild plant. People could eat its meat, and its juice could be made into a drink. It took two days to bake the agave in a fire pit. The heart of the plant's crown was used to make candy for the boys and girls. Mesquite, which is a small tree with edible pods that ripen in late summer was another food source. They would gather the pods and dry them in the sun. The pods would be pound into a sweet tasting flour, then moistened and made into a cake.
Hopi men hunted deer, rabbits, antelope, mountain sheep, and buffalo. The deer were hunted with bow and arrows. Hopi men would surround the deer. A man would scare the deer close to the hunters where the deer would be shot. Sometimes, hunters would light fire in a ring around the deer which would scare the deer and make them huddle close together where they could be easily caught. The rabbits were driven into nets and killed with hunting sticks which bounced and sometimes killed more than one rabbit. The Hopi asked the animals' forgiveness before killing them and politely told them they were on this earth to be food. Men and women, by working together, provided food for their family.
Clothing
Before coming into contact with white men, the Hopi wore animal skins or clothing made out of cotton. They wore sandals made out of plant fibers or moccasins made out of animal skins. Animal skin robes were worn in the winter. The Hopi also wore jewelry. Unmarried Hopi girls wore their hair in the shape of squash blossoms. Men wore loose-fitting cotton trousers and shirts.
Children
When a baby is born a perfect white ear of corn is placed by the baby's head.
