Chirac to Bush: France Will Be Pragmatic on Iraq
Tue April 15, 2003 01:44 PM ET
PARIS (Reuters) - French President Jacques Chirac telephoned President Bush on Tuesday for the first time since well before the war in Iraq, saying Paris would play a "pragmatic" role in future developments.
Chirac, who angered Washington by opposing U.N. backing for war on Iraq, spoke to Bush for 20 minutes, Chirac spokeswoman Catherine Colonna said, adding that it was their first conversation since February 7 and describing it as "positive."
"France believes the international community must do all it can so that things work in its favor and involve the United Nations as soon as possible," she said, reiterating the Chirac argument for a central U.N. role in the future of Iraq.
She said Chirac had informed Bush of France's will "to act pragmatically and case by case," especially on issues such as disarmament, handling of sanctions, interim government, oil resources, administration and reconstruction.
Chirac also told Bush he was glad Saddam Hussein's regime had fallen and that the war had been brief, while reiterating that he still stuck to his initial view as far as opposition to war was concerned, Colonna said.
"He also told him France welcomed the brevity of the war and, like all other democracies, welcomed the fall of the Iraqi dictatorship," she said.
She said Chirac had also asked Bush about U.S. intentions regarding Syria following several days of comments by top U.S. officials that had intensified media speculation of possible action against Syria.
Chirac told Bush he did not wish to see anything that would add to tension in the region, she said.
In what looked like a clear attempt to smooth relations, he told Bush France was still attached to NATO and hoped a June summit of the G8 powers in the French Alpine town of Evian would be a show of cooperation for the sake of economic growth.
Weeping devastated liberals are furious at the reaction of ordinary Iraqis to the American liberators of Baghdad. "How can they be so stupid?", moaned 23 year old student Seth Lipinsky as he sipped on a Starbucks chocalate latte, "Don't those fools understand that Bush is a tyrant?"
After having been proven totally wrong, leaders of the protests are speaking of regathering and protesting icons of American culture like McDonalds and Starbucks. "Boy I will really miss eating Big Macs, sighed 29 year old Professional Mime Davis Kapinsky-Goldberg, "but if it shows the true evil of capitalism and George Bush then I am ready to make some serious sacrifices!"

FYI: your sig intrigued me but the website was down. You might want to update either your sig or your website. People really do click on those links, you know...
I would have to say that explosives are the most abused technology in all of history.
Of course, you post this after I correct my own mistake. I made the simple mistake of assuming the executive was the one involved with DoubleClick when they got in trouble with the FTC. No, this former CEO, Kevin O'Connor didn't think anything they were doing was wrong. That's why they got in trouble in the first place. It's nice to know you're so good at correcting others' mistakes, but perhaps you should do a better job of it by being a bit more prompt. I'll make sure I do a better job of reading the articles before I post. As it stands, we've both wasted posts in this discussion.

Two minutes after, through posting delays and such, it wasn't there when I wrote it. I commend you on your ability to admit you were wrong.

Because you didn't read the article, and responding trying to go along with the Slashdot typical knee-jerk reaction...

Nobody is talking about him.

Prompt is now a 2 minute window, good to know. You should read the articles, that's why they get posted. Now me, I just flame people who can't read. It's like playing violent video games and helps relieve the tension of work.
Dacels Jewelers can't be trusted.
They are just starting to find all of the fine criminal elements from Bubba's fine administration.
Or maybe you missed seeing a former FBI agent and Chinese spy arrested in LA. The papers initially described her as a "republican fundraiser" since she gave money to some RINO's (republican in name only) in LA.
They failed to mention she was a major Clinton/Gore donor - she sat at the table next to Gore in the Buddhist fundraiser event. She was sleeping with the arrested FBI agent who was, surprise, in charge of investigating the Chinese connection to that fundraising. And what a shock - he didn't find anything wrong. But those kind of facts wouldn't bug someone like you.
C'mon guys. Mod me offtopic, or stupid, but this isn't even a good troll. I could've done one, but this isn't it.
In point of fact, there were approximately 30 people close to clinton who had been tried for felonies while he was president. He was nearly impeached. People close to him died by violent means, be it suicide or murder. He took advantage of an intern working under him.
Sure, we bash bush here. It's the popular thing to do. Although people's comments may anger me, and are obviously just a political blurb to get people mad at the President, I don't mod you guys down.
I guess it's just another example of going against the flow on slashdot. Heaven forbid i say something pro-microsoft, or my karma will be doomed!
Who is this Anonymous Coward character, how does he post so much, and why is he always such a whore?
