Conquest FS: "The Disk Is Dead"
andfarm writes "A few days ago, I sat in at a presentation of a what seems to be a new file system concept: Conquest. Apparently they've developed a FS that stores all the metadata and a lot of the small files in battery-backed RAM. (No, not flash-RAM. That'd be stupid.) According to benchmarks, it's almost as fast as ramfs. Impressive." The page linked above is actually more of a summary page - there's some good .ps research reports in there.

It is official; Linus Torvalds now confirms: Linux is dying.
One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered Linux community when Linus Torvalds confirmed that Linux market share has dropped yet again, now down to less than a fraction of 1 percent of all operating systems. Coming on the heels of a recent FreeBSD survey which plainly states that FreeBSD has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along: Unix systems are collapsing in complete disarray.
You don't need to be a Kreskin to predict Linux's future. The hand writing is on the wall: Linux faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for Linux because Linux is dying. Things are looking very bad for Linux. Red ink flows at Mandrake like a river of blood.
All major surveys show that Linux has steadily declined in market share. Linux is very sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If Linux is to survive at all it will be among dirty, smelly hobbyists and those too poor to afford a copy of Windows XP. Linux continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For all practical purposes, Linux is dead.
Fact: Linux is dead.
