Talk With Michael Robertson

Lindows CEO Michael Robertson is vilified by many Linux advocates. At the same time, he is probably drawing more attention to desktop Linux than anyone else in the world. Is he evil? Or is he just a typical American businessman trying to make it big (for the second time; before Lindows, he founded -- and later sold -- MP3.com)? One thing is for sure: Unlike many CEOs, he'll give a plain-talk answer to a straight question. We'll send 10 of the highest-moderated questions submitted here by Slashdot readers to Robertson tomorrow, and run his answers, unedited, as soon as he gets them back to us.

Many of us who use Linux see the way you're driving it and don't like it. That's your right, of course. The GPL says you can do this. But it's kind of embarrasing, because what you do is akin to the life of someone who owns a circus. You're all promotion and glitz and show and meanwhile you're abusing the animals doing the actual work (i.e. you're abusing the code and producing a bastardized distro that's an embarassing introduction to Linux). So my question is this. Do you plan on actually working someday or do you plan on spending the rest of your natural life trying to squeeze every single dollar you can out of technology you didn't help create and barely understand? If you don't plan on actually creating something of your own, can you please move on to Nanotechnology or whatever the next big thing is going to be that you'll inevitably try to leach off of?

Remember; you're dealing here with a whole load of children whose perfect idea of a Saturday afternoon would be dropping a 747 on Bill Gates' house.

It's amusing to see it slip and start hitting their 'own' now though.

I can't speak for the entire industry, but my desktop (Linux or otherwise) is a filthy mess of both dried and fresh sperm. Looking at your mom's gang bang web pages, I can't help but to spurt all over the screen. I've found that a high contrast color scheme helps me see through the sludge.

The post you just made indicates how little you know about computers, SDL, DirectX, et al. You are a buffoon. SDL != DirectX. To port a Windows platform game to Linux will require a "herculaen" effort because, Microsoft has not realease DirectX for Linux yet. SDL will not do what you think it will and this simply shows how much of a fool you really are. Are you feeling stupid yet? I hope so, because you are unbelievably ignorant. WINE is the only soltion to this problem for several reasons:

    1. It's already 80% there. You can run a LOT of games with WINE now. And the performance is about 3/4 of what it owuld be on Windows.
    2. Windows software is always going to be the dominant force no matter what happens. We need to be able to support that in Linux.
    3. Because we can.

    So FUCK OFF PIG!!!!

Look I've said it sooooo many times before, if open source is sooooooooooooo fucking good how come apple can just knock together OS-X and release this whoop ass OS when Linux has been going for years and still looks and operates like a bag of shit.

I love windows, but if Linux was OS-X, then that would be it, game over I would switch as soon as I could download.

Its because...open source is shit, they dont innovate they just try to clone the very same fucking OS they all hate so much. Its pathetic. Microsoft must be laughing.
