Star Fox Armada To Debut At E3

According to IGN.com, the word is that Star Fox Armada for Gamecube will debut at E3. This is a Namco-developed title packing "flight-based missions and action-packed dogfights", and will be shown on the Nintendo stand either as video or a multiplayer-only playable demo. Looks like it should have a more traditional Starfox feel than Rare's Starfox Adventures, which was an action-adventure at heart, and only rebranded to include Fox McCloud partway through development.

I remember the first time I saw Starfox on the SuperNintendo. It seemed jaw droppingly cool at the time.

In fact, I again played it again just a few weeks ago.

Do you think this version could be better?

The original game was OK, but I seem to remember it lacking depth. F-Zero was another game that was technologically interesting at the time it came out, and the new one looks like a Wipeout fan's wet dream.

I think it's fair to say this version will be better, in terms of depth and gameplay.

Nintendo wants to highlight the multiplayer aspect? That's all well and good but is there an online prescence expected for the Gamecube? To me, if a game is multiplayer these days - that means network play - not four controllers plugged into the same console.

I have a network adapter for my PS2 and it's great!
I can't think of any Starfox-like games that are already available for the other consoles as online games so if Nintendo doesn't release it to play online, they're missing out.

While Nintendo does have a broadband adaptor out, titles for it are a little thin on the ground. Traditionally, Nintindo has always focused on 'kart' style multiplayer. 4 people on a couch, trash talking, and having a great time. F-Zero, Mario party, and several others are examples of this.

I just hope the new Mario Kart can live up to expectations. The n64 version is still amazingly fun to play multiplayer.

The new Kart will be internet'able. I don't know if armada will be.

The new Mario Kart will not be Online, but it will support LAN multiplayer (connecting two cubes through broadband adapters). Playing Mario Kart with people who are sitting in another room wouldn't be that much fun, anyway. Nobody to curse at!

Why anyone would want to fantasize about being a mick pilot is beyond me. I realize he's a fox and all, but that doesn't diminish his drunken, violent behavior and incessant pope-worshipping. He's liable to go after Slippy with a broken whiskey bottle if he gets too tanked up on leave... that's a liability an air force doesn't need.

In other news, the color scheme of games.slashdot.org makes me want to take a rifle up to the roof and start picking off old ladies. I guess that's appropriate for a video game section (according to the likes of Joe Lieberman), but honestly if you want anyone to read this shit, you had better change the scheme to something less retina-burning.
