lBSD_de - a german localization FreeBSD Project

Axel Gruner writes "A german BSD-Community, namely BSDForen.de, has officially anounced their new project "lBSD_de". "lBSD_de" is a modification of the FreeBSD 5.0-RELEASE Operating System to better fit the needs of German speaking users.
Another goal of the project is developing new features. Of course, whatever new there is will be passed to the FreeBSD-Developers to either implement it or drop it. That way, avoiding two FreeBSDs each with different features is guaranteed.

    According to this fresh item
    "Software Industry is dead", i guess saying that "BSD is dead" is sort of redundant.

    I'm German.

    Actually, last time I set up an Outlook ExpreÃY
    for a friend of mine, I was wondering what
    "account" does mean on German. It took me a fair
    amount of minutes.

    I am explicitly against anglicisms in the German
    language, and people know me as anti-USA, but I
    think "use the right tool for the job" (yes, I'm
    a BSD user...), so I don't have any German com-
    puter programme any more except for WinZip, where
    I have no crack for the English version :)

    OTOH, I'm not using Windows for anything but
    gaming any more, so I probably won't need it
    anyways...

      What more counts is the current. And I see the
      USA as a fascist country. Partially.

      This doesn't mean I don't know any person who
      lives over there and has a bit of a clue.

      Bound to be more Indians and Black people alive and well in the good old US of A now then there are Jews in Germany and much of the rest of Europe for that matter. And I hope they all feel the same way I do about the Germans and the French.

    After reading that, I am truly ashamed to call myself human too. Because that would mean that you and I are on the same level.
    And I do not want wo be that low in evolution.

    These guys do localize important parts of the system (not everything) to ease freeBSD the entry of new user groups.
    And all you can do is flaming about germans being nazis. With a world map in front you can't even tell where Germany is.
    One of my grandfathers was shot by an american soldier in france - but I do not feel hate against the citizens of your country. What went wrong during your upbringing?
    Back in the the days when i started working with computers 'nerd' had something to do with intelligence and education. This understanding seems outdated.

    Einer meiner Grossvaeter starb durch die Hand eines US-Amerikaners in Frankreich, aber ich verspuere deshalb keinen Hass auf die Einwohner eures Landes.
    Was lief falsch waehrend eurer Erziehung?

    Damals, als ich anfing mit Rechnern zu arbeiten, hatte 'Fachidiot' etwas mit Intelligenz und Bildung zu tun. Diese Ansicht scheint veraltet.

      One of your grandfathers was shot because he was defending the life a bloodthirsty tyrant, quite like the one our forces recently defeated in Iraq, with his own. I don't care if you do or don't bear a grudge towards the U.S. army, the grandson of the soldier that killed your grandpa, me, the United States, God, or a flying green pig named Bob. As a rule, people make moral choices and live (or die) with the choices they make. Your grandpa made entirely the wrong choice, so I would have preferred his death to that of the soldier who killed him. Nothing personal.

      BTW. Germany is easy to locate. It's that mixed-up country in the middle of Europe that the Americans had to defeat twice, liberate once, and defend from the soviets once.

      Where is a political statement in the news, or even in the lBSD_de project?
      And, if you are talking about history, well, the history of the USA is not that long, dont forget, without Europe, the USA would be a nation of Indians. Did i said Indians? Uhh, what have the USA done with them? Or, what about the black people?
      Ah i know, the USA, a country where a president is on the top with cheating the elections. Yes, the land of the free, oops, what about homeland security?
      Yes, and the wars, the USA is in war, everyday, with one or more countries. Yes thats a peaceful living.
      What about Somalia, Korea or Vietnam? ohoh. Dont talk about that, i know, what a shame.
      And so on, etc etc etc.
      Calm down Mister. The Geman history is not just 12 years, it is bit longer, but you just know the second worldwar, which was a damn bad thing, without a question, but, where is the political statement in lBSD_de? Once again, i dont see it.
      What about the second world war, the war was actually over, wht did the US Air Force? Throw bombs on civil person who lost erverything. The german stupid wehrmacht was gone, just civil folks where there, in fear, and then, bomb bomb bomb. Well, thats also a part of the history, but the winning team is always the team who did everything right.

      I you said, his grandpa did the wrong choice, i hope that you did not vote for Mr. Bush. To catch people who are MAYBE terrorist, and trat them like animals, with no rights, yes baby, thats the way you think freedom is? Stupid white man. Really, stupid white man.       BTW. USA is easy to locate, 280 Million people, 99% of the white folks came from europe. So, maybe you are also a german?

      Once again, i dont see the political statement in lBSD_de.
      I was five times in the USA, i like the people, i like the country, i dont like the politics there. And i just see, that people over there shouting out "Piss of Krauts" and stuff like that, are stupid as the germany folks where stupid in the second world war. It is the same, just stupid, without thinking and arrogant propaghanda. Nothing more.

      This country is ill, totally ill. If i see the streets there, the people, the poorness, and stuff like first pushing Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, after that haunting them, if i see homeland security, i hope you will wake up, as soon as possible. If not, go dying, butthead.

    Is this just mature of translating the basic setup or is there something more fundimental of changing setups so the default is for Germany (phone codes etc?)

      I think it will be translation of "sysinstall" and using german keymap as the standard. It will also translate configfiles comments, and so on. I think tje project will not translate the whole system, like user "root" will be NOT the german "Wurzel" ;).
      Also error messages will stay in english.

      First of all, if you think germans are racist, look at that what you are typing. Think twice, and say "Hey, i am a racist".       I look in the encyclopedia under "Vietnam", and found "Agent Orange". After that i looked for "Nagasaki" and "Hiroshima", what did i found? Yes USA and nuclear weapon.
