While all the facts have not emerged, as an attorney who has dealt with similar cases I must say that the company took the correct action.
Employees who would expose the company to such liability must be terminated. The proper action for them to take would have been to simply delete the offending material, thereby eliminating the potential liability to the company and would avoid tarnishing the company's public image.
They did not do this. They instead took the evidence to management, which in effect forced management's hand. At that point, it was inevitable that the incident would become public.
Corporate assets must be protected, and these employees endangered corporate assets. In my legal opinion, termination was the right thing to do.
Yeah speeding is the same as taking dirty pictures of kids and getting off to them. Im sure you don't even care that people who look at child porn often "get the urge" and go out and molest kids. I couldn't live with that on my conscience.
Sheesh, this is worthy of a front page story?
Oh yes. Anytime one of our precious fellow geeks gets himself caught in the switches it is worth a front page story. Additionally, it is to be exaggerated and have as much drama associated with it as possible. In the end we'll chalk it up the oppression by da Man and blame it on Bush, then get back to fretting about whatever copywrite protection scheme we're most recently worried about.

Are you aware that reporting this is financially and morally supporting the police department, who in turn finance people who plant evidence, beat up minorities, commit perjury, and shoot innocent victims?
Who cares if they look at kiddie porn, as long as the job gets done. This is business, the only thing that matters is the bottom line, not some little girl gettin' porked by some big stinky cheese log in her loose, warm, ass-pipe. MMmnnn... bbl, gotta look at some pr0n.
