I started to post a twelve page long rant, until I re-read your post and noticed you said illegal instead of immoral. To answer your question: Since all the states that have sodomy laws put them on the books.
And if my vote and my letter-writing ability have anything to say about it-that will become universal [for the united states, at least; we can probably make europe tow the line through economic sanctions--but now I'm wildly off-topic.
