Have You Seen This Segway?

Kringle writes "An April 28th theft of a Segway from a home in Kent, Washington appears to be the first of its kind. The Smoking Gun has a copy of the police report. The good news is that the thief didn't get the keys and is lugging around a big paperweight. No word yet from the Grand Theft Auto team about including a Segway in their next game release."

The USB flash drive (sometimes called a memory key) is the smallest removable storage option available. About the size of a cigarette lighter, these highly portable storage devices are ideal for transferring files between computers not connected by a network. They use very little power and can hold anywhere from 8MB to 1GB of info with a transfer rate of 1MB per second.

Nope - it would only be Aibos or Asimos there wouldn't it?

Or perhaps you're implying that people would fear the possibility that the Segway was actually a transforming autobot that would react rather badly to being stolen ;-)

Actually stealing a BMW is pretty difficult.. Before I say more IANAT I just like bmw's and have owned 2; Unless you are delicate and have a good 5-7 minutes to spare.. you aren't stealing a bmw. Not only that but you essentially start rolling the dice with their newer line of cars. The engine has an automatic disengage which is armed electronically which adds on another 3-4 minutes to disarm (the 7 series has always had this even the 85 model). BMW, owners and everyone else will say it can't be disarmed, or it's very difficult. It obviously is not and this is because even though the car doesn't rely on the battery for the this system on the bmw, the system isn't shielded (i believe mercedes, bmw, q45, luxury cars in general are adopting a key system which completes a circuit for ignition). Anything electrical is easy to work around when it comes to cars because it's not essential for a cars operation and is easily replaced. In any event like said.. thieves are not only just better at these things.. They are experts on the car(s) in question, the likelyhood of you getting your car returned when it's been stolen by an expert is zero. Especially if it's an high priced item but rest assured at that point you can join the support group of other people whos cars have been stolen within that week. It's a guaranteed that you won't see your car again but at least you aren't the only one.

Interesting point, actually. I keep pretty regular tabs on the BMW message boards, and when the new M3 came out there was a rash of break-ins -- but few actual thefts. It seems there was a "bug" with the car in that if a thief popped out a certain part of the driver's door, the alarm wouldn't go off. They'd then hop in and check the glovebox in the hopes that the new driver had forgotten to remove the "emergency" valet key from it's home in the user's manual. So basically a lot of people came home to find broken doors and "roughed up" cars.

The other thing, especailly in a place like NYC, is the miserable flatbed truck. There are so many friggin' tow trucks running around this city, nobody would even bat an eye if they saw a flatbed loading a new BMW up. Snap, zoom, and off they go with your car....no hotwiring even necessary.
