NES Game To Bitmap Converter Debuts

Thanks to retro site Zophar's Domain for hosting and highlighting a new PC tool for use with Nintendo Entertainment System cart images, NAPIT (scroll down to find link, and check out all the other interesting game editors while you're at it). This fun utility allows the user to save a NES game as multiple bitmap files, alter the parts of the bitmap containing graphical data (game sprites), and then reconvert to a perfectly working ROM image. Just don't alter all those pretty patterns that represent the game logic, will you?

Go to http://www.zophar.net/utilities/facelift.html and scroll down to NAPIT. Right click and save. Well that worked for me :)

The site is stronger than it looks, most slashbots just don't care, or that little ridirect really does its job.

I wnder how many asses they kissed to get a /. anouncement for such a crap tool (is it even open source?). Go, get http://ucon64.sf.net instead. I like that tool much more than any other tool because it does everything with your ROMz.

I have an old ROM tool called NES2PCX that turns NES ROMs into PCX files. Used it all the time to hack the graphics. NAPIT isn't exactly innovative, sorry.

I tried this on a rom that I have, and after it was done processing, I had about 32 bitmap files.

But none of them could be opened using any image editing software that I have.

Nesticle allowed you to edit the tiles WAY back in 98. I had lots of fun back then, editing my old NES games to do goofy things like have the guys in Kung Fu throw spoons at you.
    I'd give Nesticle a look.
It may be considered outdated as a dos app'. But it's still the original king.
