FSF Threatens GPL Lawsuit
An anonymous reader writes "Dan Gillmor of the San Jose Mercury News reports that OpenTV is violating the GNU General Public License. He notes that the Free Software Foundation is threatening to file a lawsuit in the case. If you haven't become an associate member of the FSF yet, now would be a good time!" Note that Gillmor is reporting the FSF's claim of violation, not making it himself.

You miss the point. The goal is to take a childish potshot at Microsoft, to Kharma-whore a few points. In such situations one should not let pesky-facts get on the way.

You are exactly right. But what's really funny is that the other mental age perception I see in Slashdot is that 5 year old's taking cheap pot shots are followed up by arrogant ass clowns....kind of like really bright adolescents who want to lord how smart they think they are to all who can listen or read while wondering why jocks are beating them mercilessly and the ooposite sex regards them on the same level as STDs. It's amazing how overly serious people are about something as stupid as a message board.

We make use of a service already existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons (ie, CowboyNeal), and you call us criminals. You have girlfriends, you have suntans, you socialize, fuck, and lie to us and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the losers with friends like CowboyNeal. Yes, I am a geek. My crime is that of a loser. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for. I am a geek, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual, but you can't stop us all...after all, we're all horse cocks.
The difference is that SCO's case is completely without merit, while the FSF's case here is completely watertight. Of course, this is my opinion. You could form your own opinion by reading SCO's deposition, plus whatever other materials are available (I'd recommend Eric Raymond's OSI position paper for a start).
What do you mean, "we"? You start a petition in support of OpenTV if you like. Why do we have to waste our time with your petty complaint?
