Star Wars Episode III: Behind the Scenes Webcam

securitas writes "Soon Star Wars behind-the-scenes webcam goes live when shooting for Episode III begins in Australia. 'The webcam will be moved every day, shooting live for 12 hours and then replaying in a loop while the cast is sleeping.' Of course it's only free until next week when you will have to join StarWars.com's newly relaunched site to view the cam as part of a package of services that includes online chats, outtakes and deleted scenes." I'm not sure if it's worth $20, but it's worth something....

I am a really big Star Wars fan...I can't get enough information about the behind-the-scenes goings on, so this story about the webcam is fantastic!! However, I am an Debian GNU/Linux user, and some people on #debian were telling me that web cams are not supported yet. Is this true? Can I view the Star Wars web cam page even though I am using Debian? Does this have anything to do with apt-get? Apt-get is really neat.

George Lucas is nothing but a cheap hooker full of his own sense of importance - he seems to believe that somewhere along the way he became more than a story-teller, modern-day Homer, my ass. He can stick this myth-making shit up his hairy white ass.

Had the misfortune of watching the "Special Edition" of episode 4 last night and realised that extra cgi does nothing for the story (and it doesn't fit in seamlessly anyway) and most of the extra scenes are next to useless or ruin the impressions I always had of the characters.

I know I will go to this movie but charging for advertising is up there with shops charging for loyalty cards - How can anybody come up with the idea that it is worth something to a customer to give you their details or view your advertising?

How can Lucas be this unaware? All we need to do is take a look at the comments in reply to this and see that everyone is sick and tired of Star Wars and George Lucas trying to suck every last dollar out of us. Now, George Lucas must be somewhat intelligent - why doesn't he realize that this type of behavior hurts his ticket sales more than it helps? If you want to charge people a bit for server costs, that's one thing. But $20 for infrequently updated and grainy pics of people standing around waiting for Portman to come out of her trailer? That's outrageous and I hope no one signs up for this "service."

But Lucas never shows any respect for the fans so why am I surprised.

And this claim is backed by exactly what historical evidence? It's just as good a theory as the "let's bomb Iraq and the American style democracy and general good will will flourish in the Middle East" domino effect theory by the neocon clique.

The only thing cutting the tax on dividends will help is the conservative agenda of stomping on the weak.

I remember loving SW as a kid. Heck, it's _still_ the film I've seen the most times (NH + TESB + ROTJ > 100 viewings, with TESB leading by good 20 viewings). Then something happened when TPM came out. I remember reading PVPonline when Brent and Cole discovered Cole's kid _loved_ TPM, while they hated it. Something broke inside Brent and Cole, and the same something broke inside of me. I transcended that state of "I know it sucks, but I like it" and went to "this movie is *MAJOR CRAP*". The acting is bad, the story is bad. Photography is good (great at times) as well as SFX (the original SFX mind you, the new releases don't offer much when compared to just about anything produced in the last 5 years). The movie has *great moments*, but a good movie is not just a string of great little things, the movie itself has to be great, and SW is not. I still have a warm spot for SW, but I haven't seen any of the original trilogy for over 2 years now. I just can't: I realised (better said, admitted), it was only about money. The fantasy and the love for adventure weren't part of it. They were in for the money, and just for the money.

Now this. US$20 bucks for a shoddy video of people standing there doing rather little (let's get real: do you think Lucas will allow the interesting bits out when he can put those in the special edition DVD and juice US$20 extra from the fans in a couple of years?). Isn't that just giving in? Isn't that just admitting that the movie is a total POS? Isn't that just saying "yes, I know this is about money and I'll play along"?

I've seen AOTC once. I'm not looking forward to a second viewing. And I'm most definitely not looking forward to EP3 -- I already know it will suck in the same way ROTJ sucks when compared to NH and TESB. And given the way TPM and AOTC *suck*, EP3 is going to deserve its own suckage category. Out of this world, really. EP3 will set the standard for suckage of future films. Come back here in three years and tell me that wasn't the case.
