Sims Creator Signs TV Deal
Thanks to EvilAvatar for pointing out a Reuters/Hollywood Reporter article indicating that Will Wright, the creator of The Sims and Sim City, has signed a TV deal with Fox. According to the article, "Wright said there are a lot of things that he has learned in creating original franchises for interactive entertainment that he can apply to linear entertainment." In other words, he's looking to take concepts from games and apply them to TV, and is quoted as saying "'I think there are ways to get a deeper level of creative input from an audience of a TV show... I'd like to explore ways to connect the loop between a show and its audience, going beyond the current methods of phoning in a vote.'" Update: 06/03 15:16 GMT by S : Apologies, this dupes a mainpage post from earlier today.
Sigh.
I'm at a loss for words. I simply don't understand how it's possible to have this many dupes. If your job is to post stories, how hard is it to simply scroll down?
Since we've had a frontpage dup.
Wasn't one of the "benefits" of subscribing being able to give notice to the editors when dupes are posted so that it doesn't hit the front page?
I'm still in the boat that says I won't subscribe until the editors start running this like a magazine instead of a hobby (spell checking, grammar checking, dupe checking)
The dupe was from a few hours earlier, and it was on the front page.
If it had been buried in a subsection several weeks ago then I wouldn't say a thing but you can't really excuse this which shows just how little attention the "editors" pay their site.

The Sims was an amazing idea to begin with. The video games and computer software are unreal. This may be just what Television needs for the future.
In fact, it was so good that he signed it twice!

this shows that the slashdot editors don't even read slashdot. This dupes something that is only 5 articles down the page.
Repeal the DMCA!
Dupe, dupe, dupe, like it really matters anyway.
That aside, I'm interested to see what Wright can do with the format. Since Simcity, Will's been on the ball when it comes to disseminating humans and human activity, and anything that stems from his in-depth knowledge of us and ours can only be good. Like the article says, current "Interactive" Television and "Audience participation" barely goes beyond the odd voting system or "Ask the Audience" press-a-button scenario.
It'll be interesting to see if he can break the mould a little, maybe shake up the industry.
We're all gonna die!
