X-Box Hackers Trying to Blackmail Microsoft?

While I doubt Microsoft 'negotiates with terrorists,' this should still turn out to be a good I-told-you-so if the exploit is verified." Sounds like a good way to end up in jail.

There is no law in the US that says you can't take a piece of electronic equipment and do whatever you want to with it. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Period. End of argument.
Take DirecTV boxes for example. While they don't WANT you to open up the box and learn how to dupe the smart card, there isn't actually any law that says you can't. You just do it and good luck to the DirecTV folks in taking you to court. The more of us that do these things the better. No company has enough resources to proecute everyone in the world. The real law is this: Do what thou wilt with regard to computer technology and fuck the companies and the licenses. There isn't a court in the land that any of them would be able to stand up to.

Tough shit. It's called capitalism and it cuts both ways. Everyone can attempt to make a profit, but no one's entitled to a profit, even Microsoft. Thus, if they didn't think out their entry into the console market well enough and have to fold, then that's the way the cookie crumbles.
