mgcsinc writes "According to this Yahoo article from Reuters, IT buyers are continuing a trend of cutting costs, favoring utility over cutting-edge effect. Market researchers are estimating continuing doldrums in the industry and enterprise businesses see more 'bang for the buck' from making improvements in software as opposed to investing in new infrastructure. This is not necessarily awful, however, for those who hope businesses will start looking toward open source options as the cost effective alternatives..."

    This is awesome! I think the moderation system on Slashdot is the worst and I cannot wait until Rob Malda's overlords go out of business. (Anyone know what the stock price is currently at?) Crapflooding like this is a sure sign that there are major problems with the system and that moderators abuse their duties - which makes the experience less enjoyable for everyone. Recently I had an account which was being targetted by a moderator. Posts that I had made a week ago or more would suddenly drop five mod points at a time - leading to IP bans for me. I e-mailed Rob about this but he never got back to me. I know that he posted in his journal about how he doesn't get back when someone e-mails him about a moderation problem, he just checks the posts and takes action if neccescary. But the fact is, my posts were dropping to -1 when I was not trolling. It's so sad that none of the editors give a fuck about the readers. They refuse to change or take advice on anything they are doing - which is amazing because if there is one thing they should have realized by now, it is that they constantly fuck up and make mistakes. Once Slashdot finally dies, a replacement for it will quickly appear - one that isn't commercially driven and one that is actually in the spirit of open source; i.e. some note of the words from the community is given. As it stands, I think Malda hates most people who post on his precious little website.
