Open Source Microsoft Exchange Replacements?
Carl Farrington asks: "Do you think you could try to raise public awareness of the importance for an open source replacement for Microsoft Exchange (Outlook/MAPI compatible for shared/public folders). Current offerings are SuSE Linux Groupware Server, Communigate Pro (Stalker Software), Samsung Contact (ex. HP OpenMail) all of which are not open source / free. Kroupware is in development, but there will be no Outlook Connector for it. otlkcon is in slow development as a possible connector for Kroupware. There is also OSER (Open Source Exchange Replacement) which again looks like it needs more help. Is there any chance of getting some people to back this stuff? It's so important and is probably the major problem facing Linux as viable replacements for Win2000 servers." While this seems to be a question that

popping up in one form or another, it's always worthwhile to come back and point out alternatives, in development, that might need your help to get off the ground and running. So, if you're looking for an alternative to Exchange, would you be willing to contribute some time to one of the projects listed above? If you've been using Unix as an Exchange replacement, what did you do and how well has it been working?
This first fuck brought to you by the crew at HBA (hymen busters anonymous) as well as CPD (cherry poppin' daddies).

A bunch of the important Blizzard folks are quitting. Unhappy with their corporate environment, or just time for a change?
And, anyone notice that in Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, in one of the arctic levels of the undead, if you kill a penguin you get a Ring of Superiority? Killing linux = superiority!?
You missed it by two minutes, you phuckwad.
Insightful?! Freakin' mods are on the crack weed!!!
Now you see the reason for Meta Moderation, if all goes well, the person that mod-ed it up, will...dun dun dun...Never Moderate again, <Evil Genious Laugh> ha ha ha</EGL>
Ba domp pish!
We can post a bunch of really great ideas and cute comments here . . . but I thought the idea was to assemble a team!
I'm not a super-hacker OSS dude, but I'll contribute if someone (who is really qualified) gets something together.
Count me in!
yeah
Intellimouse... no. I much prefer the Logitech cordless optical sat on my desk, which fits in the hand perfectly.
However the MS natural keyboard, now *that's* a piece of hardware. I'm sure I'll get bombarded with comments about how it only deals with one ergonomic feature, when it shoud deal with 42 and a half, but I like it, and other people can type on it without too much trouble.
Wrong. You'll get bombarded with comments about how it just plain sucks.
It's horrible enough with two hands, but if you switch to one hand you have to travel an extra half mile each time you change sides, and you have less choice for multi-key input (Ctrl-Y, for example). It doesn't solve any ergonomic problems, it just gives Mr Billion-dollars-a-month-profit another chance to charge exorbitant amounts of money for a uniquely broken keyboard.
Thanks, I'll stick to my AUD$9 AOpen keyboard (to say nothing of an AOpen optical mouse which cost 1/2 as much as the Microsoft equivalent, and they threw in an extra wheel) until someone comes up with something which makes switching worthwhile.
Got time? Spend some of it coding or testing
I was a fan of the strategic commander myself, it was great for playing Alice once I got everything mapped the way I wanted it. I've still got it, I just haven't had a real compelling reason to plug it back in lately. (Although I should see if I can hot-key a bunch of Starcraft things to it,....)
I've been called a "Fucking Dick" by better people than you.
I just don't understand so many here that slam microsoft or any other company that tries to make money off their investments.
I have to wonder, are there any other professions that love to prostitute themselves for free the way programmers do? When's the last time we saw some open source medicine from the chemists and pharmacists of the world.
So many of you complain here about a lack of jobs and a bad economy etc, but you also bitch about people trying to make money when they do work. If it weren't for companies like Microsoft that exist to make money, America wouldn't be the wealthy country it is today.
