Inside Electronic Voting Machines

Alien54 and several other people wrote in about a couple of stories published in a New Zealand webzine: an examination of an electronic voting system, and some less interesting political speculation about it. Diebold voting systems are in fairly wide use, and apparently provide zero security to keep election officials from writing in whatever election totals they want.

This is going to be in place for the '04 elections in the US. Czar Ashcroft said something about "Streamlining the process to protect our freedoms."

This article is interesting. I didn't know anything about how voting worked in New Zeeland. Actually, I thought they had a king, or is that only for the aboriginies?

Anyway, it would be nice to see a similar article about the voting machines used here. This story has little or no relevance to Americans concerned about privacy, butterfly ballots, and discrimination at the polls. We need to be looking inward, not outward, if we want to fix our own problems. Then we can get to work on helping the rest of the world with their troubles.

Still, best of luck to our friends down under!

Look, the republicans are not smart enough to fix an electronic voting machine and the democrats would fix it so that the votes were split between 3 different right in canidates.

Well, here's what I'm going to propose. We don't want to stop the Africans and broads from voting - we just want to control their voting. You see, the reason they shouldn't vote is because they don't have the intellectual capacity for it. They always choose poorly. So what I propose is that all white males in this country are assigned one or two or three women or blacks. The number you're assigned would be based on your wealth and education. This assignment would then mean that regardless of what the black or woman enters into the voting system, a database lookup is done and their vote is substituted with yours. I was thinking that we'd have to have all white males vote first but I suppose if the black or woman votes before their sponsor, we would just place a stub vote into the system that would later be replaced with whatever you, the dominant white male, chose.
