TRON: The Unknown Open-Source?

jordandeamattson writes "Over on CNN there is a very interesting article about Tron, an open-source real-time operating system from Japan first developed and distributed in the early 1980s. The claim is that it is more widely distributed than Windows (in some 3 billion devices world-wide), that the developer (Ken Sakamura, a University professor) would be worth mucho if he had just charged for it, and that Microsoft/U.S. goverment used trade rules (Super 301) to block it adoption by schools in Japan. Check it out for an interesting read and a 'what might have been ...'" (Here's a previous mention of Tron from March about MontaVista's work to combine it with Linux.)

      Anybody notice the Bullshite coming through different channels of the web. It almost seems coordinated... The likely reason is recognized mass media value of popular games.

      Women lie more then men. Of course. I've known about that since grade 3. the excuses given are women are more sensitive then men when it comes to social edicate and that there is more stigma attached to whorish women rather then whorish men. The first revolves around assumptions (usually mistaken) of giving what the reciever may want to hear, or respect or self-motivated interest. The second, only when interests to myself or a relation.

      An informal study (Email, icq-quakecon, local lan games-public and privately held) of true female gamers is at 5%. Inflated stats, "just like in your home town".

      I just love these kinds of articles whose spin couldn't stand up to the mildest scrutiny. Notice the writers use of key words (-common instituted (enforced not reinforced) conditioning) like the use of "whore"->the real kind and "relationship-orientated". It's a way of stacking the deck, negative wording with the masculine and positive with the feminine. Usually this kind of conditioning is instituted by corporate interests-studies done to justify a predetermined end for flattery and sales. From a personal experience there is usually an eight year turn around for female representatives (it takes that long to get a clue) then casually tossed away for someone younger and more naive. The previous representative is usually undermined and encouraged to "blow her brains out".

      Veiled threats and a howto in undermining the community. The retalitory pissor pissing on someone's lawn is usually in step with the pissee's behaviour. Usually well earned and well deserved.

      Women want to build and not destroy, I've never heard this one before, and quite frankly can't think of one circumstance of where this is true. Interesting the assumption.

      Isn't that what games are for, to do what you can't do in real life. "lest they (the developers) and players find themselves with legal liabilities in the real world" a better solution, don't play the goddamn game you fucking whiny bitch....

    Ok, I know this is offtopic, but here goes: Windows has announced the convergence of three of their product lines: Windows NT, CE, and ME. They're going to call it Windows CEMENT. Guaranteed frozen, all the time.

    Check here. The only reason I know this is because I've seen it discussed on Slashdot before. And I might have gotten it mixed around as well. Anyway U.S. billion is not always the same as a billion in other parts of the world. Silly, right?
