Don't Waste Culture, Recycle Art

Eddan Katz writes "Stepping up the copyright battle on behalf of artists, EFF is hosting an event tonight called Digital Mix at the Black Box in Oakland. Between laptop music, hip hop, and illegal art films, speakers will talk about the Creative Commons sampling license and EFF's "Let the Music Play" campaign."

      Who is the dumbfuck mod that mods stuff like this down. I mean it was already at 0, there is no need to waste mod points on making it any lower. Probably the same mod that modded this guy up. All he did was re-type the article it wasn't even slashdoted!

      Yeah that's right, keep wasting your mod-points. Meta-mods: make sure to mod this guy as 'unfair'. It's so annoying when people waste all their mod points on stupid stuff like this. There are legitimate times to down-mod someone, but when its already at 0, you're just wasting your points, and you would do better to let someone else have your mod points.

      Its usually the "editors" (or should I say janitors), not moderators, who mod this stuff down. The janitors spend their time looking at gay porn, modding shit down, staring at goatsex, fantasizing about each other, and randomly selecting the worst possible articles from the submission bin with their thumbs (or fists, in Cmdr Taco's case), up their collective asses.

      Like I said, it will never get in meta-moderation because it was modded down by a slashdot janitor. Notice how few crapflood posts you see in metamoderation?

    If you're like me, you're probably wondering just why the hell anyone wouldpay for Slashdot, let alone want to support it. As it turns out, Slashdotalready has all the features you need to completely disable alladvertisements without paying those greedy slobs at VA Software a cent. Allyou need is a DOM-compliant browser, such as Mozilla or Konqueror, and theUser Slashbox. With disgustingly-placed new full-page ads [pknet.com] now arriving, the time has come to showthat we users will not let ourselves be advertised into submission.

    Follow these five easy steps and never see another Slashdot ad again:

    1. Go into your HomepagePreferences [slashdot.org].
    2. Scroll down to the "User Space" textarea, and paste the following fourlines of HTML in there:
      <script type="text/javascript" src="http://pknet.com/~joe/adkiller.js">
      <script type="text/javascript"><!--
      delAds();
      --></scrip t>
      (click here [pknet.com] to download the adkiller javascript code and put it on your own webspace, in case you don't trust me :-)
    3. Scroll down the list of slashboxes, and make sure the "User Space" checkbox (inexplicably located between "MP3.com" and "Myther.com") is checked.
    4. Return to the front page [slashdot.org], and your Slashbox should be there, quietly zapping all iframes and banner-shaped images on the page.
    5. There is no step 5!! It's that easy.
    There are a few problems, however:
    • Opera doesn't seem to work with this at all.
    • Internet Explorer won't automatically remove the ads, but by appending the following to the above code:
      <a href="javascript:delAds()">Click to delete ads</a>
      and clicking the new link in your Slashbox, the ads will go away.
    • The User Slashbox only shows up on index.pl and articles.pl pages, socomment and user pages will still have ads. Luckily, the article pagesseem to be the only ones running the obnoxious new full-page ads [pknet.com], so this shouldn't be too annoying.

    If you are a Javascript wizard and know how to make this script work on Operaor IE, please tell me. Ad-free Slashdot should be available to everyone!

      Ad-free Slashdot is already availible to everyone. It requires that you reach into your pockets, and not be a stingy, resource-leeching assclown. I can only imagine what this place would be like without advertisements (which are not full page blinking idiocy). Though, imagining a crater, and a site that's gone bankrupt and doesn't exist is not terribly difficult.
